i was eating a sandwich not too long ago and was absolutely convinced that on the other side of the room there was a spy. he didn't noticed me but i kept an eye on him.

William Burroughs was always doing that. he upped the ante by often having them as kind of cosmic spies, not just CIA but agents of a hostile alien galaxy

The Naked Lunch film sounds like it's mostly an externalisation of his fantasies, more than an adaptation of the book. Never read it though.

One for my 'Like stepping into someone's mind' thread

this reminds me of how i always burst into floods of tears at the point where the hero is in the midst of crowd of applauding grateful admirerrs. he or she has just saved the planet or something, whatever it is, they're all cheering, luka, luka, yeah. that really hits a nerve with me. tear up every time

AND ANOTHER THING there's something uniquely contemptible about people who actually make these ridiculous fantasies real in some way isn't there. Dan Bilzerain. muscles and lingrerie models on a yacht in the caribbean. racing cars and muscles. wearing a conor mcgregor suit strutting around

Your fantasies feel very personal but they’re also very much socialLy constructed. Your desires are manufactured to a degree

Pricks like this are always on about a "journey" aren't they?

A boring linear narrative fantasy. A to B. Beginning middle and end.

That I could, at the age of 47, change career paths. Had a route planned for September, but the world went nah mate. Fortitude dear boy, what what.

That I could, despite Covid, go to our old chippy tonight.

That I could, despite his death, take my Dad out for his favourite pint, catch up and talk shit about the English. I talk to him regularly on my own, but it’s a bit one way.

That I could, despite breeding, get one (just one) good night of uninterrupted sleep.

That I could, despite little free time, finish writing a triskelion of interwoven fiction.

Simple things, not regrets, it’s not a perfect world. Indulgences like owning a boat or more material things aren’t really part of it.

being on a journey to build a banging property portfolio and getting sucked off in exchange for rent every once in a while by a sobbing single mother

Also notable that there is almost nothing less dreamlike (and more dishonest) than popular public discourse about people's dreams. We have sessions like this at work where we have to talk about our hopes and dreams and everyone lies and says "to be a good dad", or "just to make more of a positive difference for my community". All well and good but not actual dreams.

Next time we do it at work I'm gonna front up and say- I dream that I am dead and/or my friends are dead

"We're talking about our fantasies"

"Two girls, sisters. I'm just watching."

The one that always gets me is when someone is losing hope, or lost and someone gives them the you can do it, you're not alone I love you talk. I'm even welling up typing this sentence.
