The fantasies always come down to the same underlying drives, regardless of their manifestation.

Primitive man probably fantasised about killing a buffalo with a perfectly placed spear and getting sucked off the cave later.

Modern man fantasises about being revealed as the wokest man in existence and getting sucked off on stage at TED.

I thought this was very astute, the sort of thing K Punk might have written in his heyday.

s/he invites you to the awards ceremonies and parties like a special pet/mascot. you get the best cocaine, the best champagne, the best canapes, famous people laugh at your jokes, then go back to your one bedroom flat, alone and confused

Imagining meeting a celebrity and being the ordinary member of the public who actually makes an impression and becomes friends with them.

Yes!

And in actual fact you spot Gary Oldman (WITH FRIEND) at the BFI as you're leaving a screening, make an impulsive decision to meet him, shout 'Mr Oldman!' (to which he turns around looking slightly frightened), shake his hand with absolutely nothing to say but 'love your work' and scurry away with a face full of blood and a head full of shame.

I wish I had a really rich friend. I don't mind not being rich myself but if I had a best mate with billions I could get all the perks without the sense of shame and fear of being kidnapped.

is not like other people
fantasies can become delusions where people believe they actually are their fantasies but we normally find those people funny

There are useful delusions though. You can play confidence tricks on yourself. And I think plenty of creative people tap into something where they take their fantasies seriously. Seriously is probably the wrong word, but they channel the flow a bit, play with the signal. Fantasies can be daft and predictable and shameful but we’re definitely getting a significant message

as i said at the start of the thread barty literally beleives hes rescued beautiful women from hordes of fierce robbers and bandits. hes got lots of these stories. he geniunely think they happened. its great.

An interesting but pretty messy idea is fantasy as a way to make use of pain. So kinks are the unconscious finding creative ways to get pleasure from suffering, seeking a wholeness through sex , replaying scenes safely

I have a friend like this, went to the oscars, Salma Hayek's wedding in Venice etc. as a hanger on.

Ive another mate who's a totally normal, down to earth fella who's art has him hobnobbing with oligarchs and he's now good friends with Elton John and various Hollywood types. Its bewilderingly hilarious.

Can’t let my brain go there. It’ll default back to something akin to don’t confuse the joy of the other side with the day to day attrition of this thing. But if your approach provides relief, go with that.
