I've just remembered my favourite part of the film: Bacon claiming the two most handsome men in the world were Terence Stamp and Colonel Gaddafi.

Terence Stamp was outrageously good looking. Never picked up on Gaddffi before. I'll find some early pictures.

Did Bacon ever meet Beckett? I've tried digging around online, but it just produces academic stuff comparing the two.
Doesn't seem like it. from a cursory look,

Also in Minihan’s circle of friends was the artists Francis Bacon, who never met Beckett, despite Minihan’s efforts. “I always wanted to get the two together, but the moment never came. I drove Sam past Reece Mews, where Bacon had his studio, and I said, ‘That’s where Francis Bacon lives.’ Beckett said, ‘He’s very popular.’ And I knew that it wasn’t the time . . . They were like two stallions, I don’t think they’d have got along, though they had things in common.”

They are brilliant but yes a bit scary. I've seen them in real life and the thing I noticed most was how quick and rough he's been with the brush. I like bacon. The sash over the eyes, you look at it up close and its all over the place. But 2 metres away its magic

What do you think of the three I posted on the first page?

there's one or two effects which are both brilliant and specific to Bacon. this kind of speed-blur/meat-smear effect for instance.

It seems to lead into all that Marilyn Manson - Nine Inch Nails - Se7en - Silent Hill stuff.

i think they're ugly too. i like the way he painted the bull, that's very cool but why the horrible brownish orange background? and why mix orange with pink?

Lucien Freud paints in an ugly way, too. Greys, browns, the colours of dingy postwar England.

Contrast with the postwar American painters. Primary-bright abstracts. Pop art. A nation in its pomp.

I always remember that thing Matthew Collings writes of him, how he uses interiors. Formal squares and rectangles, then the horror inside that.

"Something nasty inside something neat"

And Collings said Damien Hirst took that from him. Hirst big fan of Bacon, I think he said the Sylvester-Bacon interviews book is his favourite
