About us

Who wrote this thing at the bottom? Is it default text?

“Our community has been around for many years and pride ourselves on offering unbiased, critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds. We are working every day to make sure our community is one of the best.”

Do you agree? What would you write? 50 words max please. Whoever wins the thread gets the final say on what dissensus is for.

That thing at the top sounds like a HR department churned it out. defensive, guilty even. But we want an elevator pitch to pull in the best minds in the country! Like Dominic Cummings job ad but bitesize and aimed at revolutionaries.

Analyzes the quotidian, embraces the multitude.

Dissensus uses research and design tools called lenses.
Lenses determine the perspective used to look at an object. Each lens shows different aspects, details, qualities and size of the same object. The different lenses used allows the research to focus on the different sizes, shapes and qualities of the actors, organizations, discourses, practices and the relation between these. Dissensus uses three such lenses to scale the field, the data and the analysis. As lenses change, new dimensions, registers, elements and relations become visible, new insights become possible.

Eye-Level
Focuses on the flow of everyday life.

Close-Up
Reveals details not seen at first glance.

Wide-Angle
Establishes the time-space dimension.

Dissensus first determines the lens suitable for each field.Changing its focus allows Dissensus to study feelings and experience, thought and behaviour, perceptions and tendencies Concentrating on the blind spots and the inconsistencies of life, it tries to identify the gaps and contradictions of the issue at hand. Analyzing the relation between the said and the done, it tries to give meaning to the consistencies and inconsistencies it observes. Thus it is able to see the whole clearly, manage the uncertainties, predict and shape the future. The Dissensus qualitative research and design projects deals with detail because,
  • Detail is where real data resides,
  • Each part bears traces of the whole,
  • Detail concedes the importance the part deserves.

About Us

Cafe Dissensus is an alternative magazine dealing in art, culture, literature, and politics. It’s based in New York City, USA. We DISSENT. The magazine also runs a blog, Cafe Dissensus Everyday.
Our ISSN No: ISSN 2373-177X
A very specific urge behind this magazine is to challenge the contemporary parochial attitude in Indian media.
Every ‘mainstream’ – we know the term is contentious and yet we know the newspapers and magazines that fit this bill – newspaper/magazine in India seems to be influenced by their business interests which force them to align with particular political parties – Congress, BJP, CPIM/CPI etc, despite their claim to the contrary.
There is a flourishing community media in India as well. But they cater to narrow community interests, despite their excellent service to their cause. For example, the dalit magazines or the Muslim/Islamic webzines. While ‘Cafe Dissensus’ will certainly try to undermine the covert majoritarian biases of the ‘mainstream’ media, we believe, ‘minoritarian media’ is not the way to go.
Then there are webzines which align themselves to various straight-jacketed ideologies – Left, Right, Center etc. Such ideologies make it imperative that one views the world through jaundiced eyes.
We always wanted a magazine on issues that will offer a space for dissenting voices. Dissenting voices, broadly conceived. We are the free thinkers. Despite our own ideological leanings, we will strive to preserve this magazine as a space for free thinkers. We want honest debate and discussion that should not be colored by any fear or favor. We are not a magazine for news reporting. We want to devote ourselves to analyzing issues that need to be discussed and debated.
Initially, we plan to publish four times a year – January, April, July, and October. Eventually, we would like to turn ‘Cafe Dissensus’ into a monthly magazine. Each of the issues will take up a topic, sometimes immediately relevant and, at other times, independent of the contingencies of time.
While the editors will edit a few issues in a year, we invite our readers to guest-edit issues. If any of our readers is willing to guest edit an issue (with at least 10-15 pieces, max word-limit for each piece 1200-words) on a particular topic, they must send a 500-word proposal to the editors. The guest editor must be responsible for short-listing, arranging, and editing all the articles which will pass through a final edit by the magazine editors. The guest editor must also write an 800-word editorial.
For discussion, debate, and views on events that require immediate attention, we invite our readers to contribute to our BLOG that we will update on a daily basis.
We are a completely voluntary endeavor and we are unable to pay our authors.
The materials on Cafe Dissensus are protected under Creative Commons License. Once a piece is published in Cafe Dissensus, we will retain the exclusive copyright for a period of 30 days, from the date of publication. Within this period, the piece cannot be re-published elsewhere even in an adapted and modified form.Thereafter, it must be acknowledged that the piece was first published in Cafe Dissensus. Re-publishing articles from Cafe Dissensus in other magazines and newspapers without permission will amount to copyright violation.

I tagged a bunch of threads with "jamaican voodoo gang from predator 2" so it would be one of the biggest in the cloud.

i tagged a few threads with "corpsey's law" and its now one of the biggest. the thing is, and i can't emphasize this enough, i only tagged a very small fraction of the threads that qualified.

dissensus is a curatorial collective focused on advancing rancière's call for disruption by exploring “strangeness,” developing awareness, and mobilizing individuals through critical art.

Godwin's law, but applied exclusively to Dissensus and with Autechre in place of Hitler.
