good on ya though at@yyaldrin for trying seven other establishments after the first refusal, that shows an admirable level of dedication to getting a drink.
no it wasn't even that. i'm still in cyprus and even though there are some laid back bars, most of the bars here are very upper class. they all look the same, a black interior with "modern" tables. they serve fancy cocktails and at the entrance a guy awaits you with a board on which the reservations are listed. the people wear high heels and shiny shoes. i've only seen people dress like that in holland at a wedding or at new years eve, but here it's the standard apparently. anyway, me, my brother and his friend were all wearing sneakers and jeans and at each establishment they told us "sorry you need to have a reservation".
we drove through ayia napa cos we were nearby and it's really peculiar to be on an island with thousands and thousands of years of history and to walk through a deserted town filled with plastic clubs that have names such as "the castle club" (built like a castle), "the igloo club" (built like an igloo) or "the titanic club" (built like the titanic). they also had a replica of some sort of pirate ship in the port. it's weird how the entire aesthetic caters to childrens taste.
Walked into a record shop this afternoon unknowingly 10 minutes before an in-store appearance by Jon Langford. Small group, nice way to end the week, a 4pm treat on a sunny and mild Friday.
