On your cosmic reshuffle of the kooks to the alt right: another way to hit the reset button for people is to traumatise them. And the rug pull events, the horror shows don't actually have to happen. In fact it's the belief in the false flag event that is itself the traumatic event, that causes the break with authority, of reality... i can't trust anything. I think conpsiracy theories persist, float along on a ground of disbelief, because not in spite of it. they can function as entertainment that way too.

You have always said you wanted to build The Compound. It's finally being built, only it's some Branch Davidian shit with constant escape as David Koresh.
Do we have a thread on guns? Anyone into guns? I used loads as a teenager, did CCF. LSW was the one. I had to sleep with my SA80

On the contrary, every human face is a hieroglyphic, and a hieroglyphic, too, which admits of being deciphered, the alphabet of which we carry about with us already perfected. As a matter of fact, the face of a man gives us a fuller and more interesting information than his tongue; for his face is the compendium of all he will ever say, as it is the one record of all his thoughts and endeavors. And, moreover, the tongue tells the thought of one man only, whereas the face expresses a thought of nature itself: so that everyone is worth attentive observation, even though everyone may not be worth talking to. And if every individual is worth observation as a single thought of nature, how much more so is beauty, since it is a higher and more general conception of nature, is, in fact, her thought of a species. This is why beauty is so captivating: it is a fundamental thought of nature: whereas the individual is only a by-thought, a corollary.

In private, people always proceed upon the principle that a man is what he looks; and the principle is a right one, only the difficulty lies in its application. For though the art of applying the principle is partly innate and may be partly gained by experience, no one is a master of it, and even the most experienced is not infallible. But for all that, whatever Figaro may say, it is not the face which deceives; it is we who deceive ourselves in reading in it what is not there.

I’ve thought about this kind of stuff when trying to understand quick swings to the alt-right in terms of formative experiences, trauma, what wounds are people circling around , what needs are now being met? What scripts are being played out? Can we apply an addiction model to ideological viewpoints? I think it is interesting to think about what’s held in the body, what things are running the show even deeper than beliefs
My own experience makes me think this is completely true. Beliefs are the residue to embodied experience. I've had the experience, probably several hundred times now, of doing a bodywork session, and my former mood, good/bad/indifferent dispersing like a cloud breaking up, and any thoughts and judgements going with it.

I have an air rifle. I sometimes shoot empty baked bean cans and plastic milk containers full of water.

I think its a fascinating area. long understood in yoga. Spinoza also sees the mind as a map of the bodily state.

I think what passes for self knowledge can be dangerous too. In the way that too much investment in identity politics, getting stuck at that stage can be such an own goal.

Yeah, agreed. Interesting to think how embodied knowledge and practices might intersect with identitarian concerns.

one of the things that put the idea of doig yoga in my head a few years ago now was DMT making it easy to sit crosslegged.

"Let us, however, not conceal from ourselves the fact that this first impression is for the most part extremely unedifying. How poor most faces are! With the exception of those that are beautiful, good-natured, or intellectual, that is to say, the very few and far between, I believe a person of any fine feeling scarcely ever sees a new face without a sensation akin to a shock, for the reason that it presents a new and surprising combination of unedifying elements. To tell the truth, it is, as a rule, a sorry sight. There are some people whose faces bear the stamp of such artless vulgarity and baseness of character, such an animal limitation of intelligence, that one wonders how they can appear in public with such a countenance, instead of wearing a mask. There are faces, indeed, the very sight of which produces a feeling of pollution"
