Ritual

Can you use any of the other senses internally? People who can't visualise sometimes have success by imagining the other senses.

it's all a kind of pre-sensory knowing. before the division into the 5 portals. synesthetic.

I think I visualise quite strongly. Sometimes with eyes closed I feel i can literally see things I imagine, but I think a lot of people get that. I have astigmatism in one eye and I often think how things like that shape your perceptions of the world beyond just forming an image of the immediate environment

i thought everyone except me literally sees the things they imagine?

For me it tends to be very plastic, can flow all over the shop. Keeping images static feels virtually impossible, though I did try it for quite a long time following Crowley's masochistic yoga instructions. Letting images arise spontaneously is a lot easier and depends how physically relaxed I am. With one end of the continuum being fully relaxed/body shuts down/dreams start.

i didn't mean that. i posted that video cos the image of his sad old sofa made me laugh juxtaposed with his 'high ritual'

It's a weird area mental imagery. It's very difficult to describe an image in the minds eye, the 'voluntary' stuff is usually very fleeting and incomplete but definitely has enough qualities to do the symbolic work required to evoke its thingness. Then there's th involuntary hypnagogic stuff that can appear from noise, patterns but faces and places too. do you get that luka?

i have had it. i've had, on a small number of occassions, impossibly high-resolution images i could fly around with a camera drone

By that I mean, when you imagine a thing, it's definitely the thing. You don't do it badly, you don't imagine a chair and accidentally evoke a dick in your mind. it's always what you meant to see but it's also very incomplete and too fast to hold on to.

it's interesting isnt it. what we mean by imagination. what we mean by what we 'see' inside. it's very hard to think and talk about.

astonishing. one of those things which tantalise you for the rest of your life. you know it's possible but there's no way to bring it back

i've had dreams like that but probably the weirdest one was more classically hypnagogic, on the verge of sleep. the Tower of London, able to fly over it with my camera-eye-drone, focussing on this or that point.

reminds me of impossibly haunting and ravishingly beautiful music i used to hear as a child under simialr circumstances.

You get better with practice. I visualised a temple and travelled around it everyday for a year. It was as Shiels said, frequently incomplete and fragmentary though on some occasions it got very vivid. It improved my visualisation abilities in general though.

You can improve lucid dreaming abilities also. The hardest thing is not to be so startled that you wake up.

It's only happened three or four times in my life (as far as I remember) but they all involved flight and looking around at cities and buildings in perfect detail. I got the music thing too, impossible melodies.

left with this persistant yearning for this city which may very well not exist at all.
