We keep talking about going surfing here. I dunno though. I think I'd rather just swim.
When we were kids we used to go to Cemlyn in Anglesey a lot, we'd build targets and throw stones at them, walk through the gorse watching birds through the binoculars, then home to Nain and Grandpa's for alphabites and lamb, happy days.

You live down the road from one of the most famous waves on earth.

I told you we went to Nazare right? We went to that place you see in the photos but didn't see any megawaves just loads of filthy hippies hanging around and spoiling everything. Went to a nice restaurant though.

Same thing happened to me when I went to Half Moon Bay to check out Mavericks.

If we do surf I wont start there though obviously. My friend broke her arm there last year, just on the beach, not where the massive waves come in, but the beach is still rough. She didn't get it set properly (there was some kind of mix-up at the doctors) and now it's fucked forever.

British beaches are nice but it's too cold. Like Northumberland, all those beaches like Seahouses, bamborough Castle beach, they're all amazing, but it's so fucking cold walking them. Welsh beaches and cornish beaches also amazing. And Dorset. Just the weather let's em down

Let's Talk About Ceps
The beaches at Compton and Brook on the SW coast of the IoW were perfect for spending whole days on as a kid. If you got bored of the sea itself there was the great tumble-down cliff of red sandstone that lead up to the car part on the edge of the downs above, which you could climb. Well, I could - my younger brother came up with me once and got stuck and I had to rescue him, to my great mirth. The sea and beach were really clean and there were often waves; Craner would no doubt sneer at them but the beach attracted proper surfers. We just used body-boards which were cheaper, far easier and still great fun. The sand was weird though, I mean it was nice and fine but it was very dark and could get excruciatingly hot in the sunshine, so if you weren't wearing flip-flops you had to literally hot-foot it from your towel to the water.

Looking forward to sharing all this with my little one next summer on a trip to see his grandparents.
