The countryside is boring the city is overwhelming.

If I was a rich man I'd have a house / flat in both.

What you need is an apartment-swap situation. You two trade places, with a little coordination it's only payin for one house

Yyaldrin on p6 trying to figure out what's wrong with the beautiful photos of Donegal convinces me that Luka, Corpsey, and Catalog are all major depressives

Luka's descriptions of the countryside and country people in this thread are brilliant.

I was thinking reading these that although I find it hard/impossible to understand Luka's poetry when I read his prose his genius comes through loud and clear. Probably comes so easily to him that he dismissed it contemptuously. Sad!

I'm living out in the semi country atm. Can confirm it's fucking boring and on bad weather days very bleak. But then there are nice sunny days where I can see the ridge of the Chilterns on the horizon in its variegated autumnal colours and the sky is huge and spectacular. Still doesn't seem like adequate compensation for not having an IMAX and a modern art museum and 50,000 bars.

Just walking around Marylebone today wondering who are these people who can afford to live in Marylebone? With their 4x4 Bentleys and Porsches.

I'm still bemused by this. So many rich people. I had not known free market capitalism and inherited wealth had enriched so many.

When I was writing these I got a scalding message from woops telling me that kind of easy cynicism and boilerplate banter was beneath me and he was right.

Can we all come and visit you one day and go for a walk along the Ridgeway the oldest footpath in Europe

one thing i don't like about the city is that there's too much too see sometimes. i have this habit of looking at every object and every face even if it's just for a microsecond so what happens when i'm walking a busy square or a busy road is my eyes move in all directions and i can't focus on anything and it's very exhausting. another thing that i don't like about the city that it's very hard to see the horizon.

I really noticed this in the few short spells I lived in Tokyo. I don't think humans are really designed to process so many faces at once with such intensity. In combination with signage and lights covering your whole visual field, It's weirdly exhausting. not really noticable until you go into some dull suburb, escaping the maelstrom, feels like your ears should start popping from the pressure release.

if I hadn’t met my other half I’d already be somewhere along the west coast of Ireland, miles from anyone.

i find cities uniquely stressful places, they lost their appeal decades ago. Yes there’s all that culture and community services can thrive with adequate funding, but their civic purpose seems either a) residential or b) commercial. One hope for a post lockdown realignment of civic common sense would be to open cities up to their non commercial potential, but have no personal idea how that might be overcome and/or achieved.

@IdleRich you’re Portugal aren’t you? This popped out of the graniud

What kinda accent does the guy shouting at :40 have?
The one saying "don't let technology beat you"? I find t hard to say with just one sentence. South for sure but I can't tell if it's west or east.
Could be mild West Country like Wiltshire or something (not full on zumerzet or cornwall)

Or yeah, could be East Anglia like Mellsman says
