The Weather.

through that whole blissful period at the start of lockdown i refused to look at a forecast. i felt it would break the spell.
It was very very strange that the lockdown coincided with 100days of beautiful sunshine in UK, barely a drop of rain.
I can't help wonder how things might have been different had it not been so,
it really has been uncanny - a little bit too big for the brain to consider how it might all link up

like how was it for other countries, it feels like the weather and the quarantine were indivisible, hand in hand.
How did that go in a different climate, non UK folks?

It was 37 degrees yesterday, felt like stepping into an oven when you went outside. Though interestingly in girlfriend's home town in Russia it was one degree hotter. They are predicting that this summer is going to be even hotter than two years back when it hit an unbelievable 44... thank fuck we have air conditioning now.

I didn't have a/c growing up because summers were warm but only got hot for a brief period, like one week of low 90s in august, so we'd just tough it out with a fan. I'd die without it now, where it's mid- to high-80s for over three months and 90s at least a few days per week. we'd never sleep without it, doesn't ever really cool off as much at night here compared to in the suburbs/country. bloody global warming is real.

still not many apartments or homes in the UK with a/c, right?

I lived in sydney without ac for six years. It disgusts me. I think it's degenerate. It angers me. I think people should be executed for using it.

The idea of using in New York is utterly reprehensible. You would be right in the fucking gulag Leo even if you are 70. No exceptions.

Whinge whinge whinge. Live in a hot country, it gets hot. What do you expect. Put some ice cubes down your pants, have another lager, stop whinging

I actually like warm weather and can tolerate it fairly well, summer's supposed to be warm! and I hate buildings that have the a/c cranked all day, people in large offices wearing sweaters and taking a cigarette break mostly just to go outside and warm up.

but I'm over the extended periods of hot and humid days at this point. it's nice to visit New Orleans, not great to deal with it every day.

back in the days of virgin megastores, there was one in Times Square that would have all the doors open and a/c cranked so high in the summer that you got cold walking down the sidewalk outside. it was to lure people in on a hot day, or course, but shameful to think of the wasted energy, costs and environmental damage.
