nice day today, @shakahislop , get out there.

a friend is having a b-day gathering on Saturday at DSK (Lafayette stop on the C). if you can identify me, I'll buy you a beer.
yeah it was lush today. i'm sure it would be possible to identify you easily enough, the coterie of art waifs that @suspended knows from the clandestino toilets would be two stories deep.

The world is all fucked up. Closer to home we've been momentarily wiped out by unexpected travel costs and a few other personal things are meaning that this isn't really a great time. But the weather today is so beautiful - sure it's threatening to get too hot and probably soon (a few days hence I mean) I'll be having to find a dark hole in which to hide my pasty white skin - that it just makes everything that much better. I guess it's an obvious point but the more things like that are in your favour and the less they are against, the better everything is going to be overall... maybe only a bit but big things are made up of little things and at times when you can't solve the big problems you just have to work in increments.
I genuinely feel that (all other things being equal) the exact same situation In Portugal in a lovely warm breeze on a clear sunny day is so much more bearable than it would be on a cold wet day in England with the wind cutting into you like a knife and your miserable feet soaking and cold from puddle after grey puddle.
As it says in that song I posted in my tune of the week "winter time is a razor blade that the devil made". That line always speaks to me cos the most vicious cold really does cut you and the word that people lazily use - "cruel" - is totally apt, at its worst it feels as though it's trying to hurt you.

why yes, @shakahislop, the last few days have indeed been wonderful. trekked out to sunset park yesterday to visit a friend (the infamous 36th st stop on the D/N/R where bullets were flying a few weeks ago), strolled around green-wood cemetery and over to industry city, actually added a slightly darker layer to my already-swarthy Portuguese complexion.

have you noticed that it has often been fairly windy the past few weeks? some days have the trees really whipping around (shaving at least five degrees for the real-feel temps), but even the average days seems to to have 10-15 mph winds. maybe it's an April thing, maybe it's a global warming thing. what do you think, Shaka?

it's been unique i have to say, the wind. i got into the habit of wearing a hat to stop my hair waving around. i was also wondering if it was an april thing, but i can't remember it being like this before. none of that today. i went for a ride through the financial district, over the brooklyn bridge, brooklyn heights, crown heights bed-stuy bushwick, then up to greenpoint and back over the williamsburg. brownstones and literally cycling through cherry blossom being blown off the trees. brooklyn in all its splendor. all the people out and about, it was the same yesterday, its like in england when it gets warm and suddenly there are ants everywhere

it's good that you've made friends with the 36th st subway stop, it probably needed the moral support after recent events. always an interesting part of town that, though i never feel like i get to the bottom of it, such a mish-mash of different things (and industry city is a particularly incongruous part of that mish-mash).

thank you, @shakahislop. your day of bike riding sounds wonderful, glad you managed to enjoy Brooklyn in all its non-culture mafia spender and get a good workout in. and yes, I should have clarified that the 36th St. subway stop is not in fact my friend in Sunset Park, but instead the subway stop where I got off in order to visit my friend who lives on 31st St.

it's OK leo. it's fine. we all love and respect you. we know that you live in a soho loft from the 80s and used to go tagging with basquiat. it's not a problem for us that you have emotional relationships with subway stations. i think you may even find some tolerance here if it becomes sexual. there's no need to hide. no-one on here will tell Dasha, she ignores us when we slide into her DMs anyway

glorious today wasn't it @Leo
Yesterday* was lush here too... I think my friend said it was 31 degrees celsius although that I'm not sure it was that high. Perfect timing cos I been trying for literally months to organise a group of my feckless friends to join me in a walk across the marshes looking at birds and then on to Alverca where lies the greatest Indian restaurant that I know of in the whole country. A number of dates have previously been agreed on, but each time, as it grows close, the attendees drop out one by one until finally it gets cancelled and we arrange another date.

But this time only one dropped out and I was able to replace him with a Serbian guy I've met recently. Lured by the promise of birdwatching he asked to come along (after we'd had six or seven beers in the bar before the bar before the marsh starts he said "I didn't know this was what birdwatching was like") and it's a good thing he did cos two dropped out at the next bar (they are a couple, had some kind of argument I think). Once in the marsh it was just beautiful, surprisingly empty by the time we got out there and there were some birds to be seen - among other things loads of harriers, some flamingos in the distance (we had stopped in a little shelter provided by the path to drink a beer) and a strange black wading bird that is totally new to me but which I now intend to try and identify.

Curry was truly delicious and it turned out neither Fred or Igor had ever had one before so was good to show them something new that they liked. Then cab back to mine for some records and booze. Igor and Aidan finally staggered off about 2pm. In fact Sunday was pretty warm too come to think of it, I remember we went to a cafe to get some cigs and beers about 10am.

Pretty sure it was a glossy ibis in fact. New to me.

At 6am this morning there was a load of really fucking loud thunder that woke me and presumably everyone up, and everyone I've interacted with all day has been really grumpy

the thunder at 6:00 am was wild, really deep loud rumbles made it sound like we were getting bombed.

Fucking hot today... dead air just hanging unmoving, opening the windows does nothing cos there is no breeze at all. We can't move, cats can't move... just lying listlessly there... and it's only the start of May!

It's actually really fucking hot today up north in England. Quite surprising. Until the cloud hides the sun of course.

I woke up at four pm, glad I missed the hot part of the day. Gonna have to start making "cold water bottles" for the cats soon I think.
