Anyone got any recommendations? I've been sick to death of TV for a while and it suddenly hit me that it may be because I watch nothing but English and American stuff. Are those European crime dramas they used to have on BBC Four any good?

I know you're looking to get away from British shows but most seasons of "line of duty" are good. "happy valley" not bad, "Broadchurch" ok.

I find it hard to work up enthusiasm for British TV. Just seeing shots of British towns and cities sucks the life out of me.

the grey dingy light doesnt help but its not just that. it's the British soul which is the problem.

There's a story about David Ginola driving his wife round Newcastle when he signed with them and her saying she couldn't live there and bursting into tears.

this is great, the gravity of this island has immediately turned this thread - a bid to widen the parochial perspective to other lands and cultures - into an extension of the city/country thread. it's no joke.

it's also why we urgently need a massive ritual of transcendence, happening on a forum near you in less than two hours

i said it's no joke version and i meant it - i was late to the city/country thread which was mostly full of cynical satire but that's a real thing to me, england is truly fucked, i hate where i come from, london or bust has been a powerful factor

Yeah Kingdom had normal length episodes as I remember. World on a Wire is ace, worth watching Thirteenth Floor as a comparison which is a US film based on the same book.
