Fwiw I find twitter incredibly addictive and often depressing but also a source of constant amusement, ingenuity and even (less frequently) enlightenment. I can see why it drives right wingers bonkers cos I do think it has probably had a disproportionately powerful influence in spreading liberal ideas like trans rights e.g. (while also propagating anti trans ideas, which I assume would exist anyway?)

I don't know, PooHitler69 is actually known for his incisive discourse regarding misinformation in the current media landscape.

I'm all for the new verification policy. It's the funniest and most effective assault on the amour propre and entitlement of the opinion merchants there has ever been. How will Marina Hyde be able to tell whether or not she is still a genius? Where will Dorian Lynskey get help writing his articles? Who will poor Ian Dunt talk to now? Someone needs to speak to Elon, it's gone too far.

This lot will be pathetic wherever they end up anyway

Mastodon has not yet reached escape velocity from the realm of people talking about ... twitter (and mastodon),

it will be a good sign when a reduced proportion of meta-chat indicates that it is not just technerds/early adopters
(as it is actually quite a useful thing and a viable escape route)

You don't need to have gone to the Delancey st McDonald's to know what it's like. that area, particularly the side streets (Suffolk, Eldridge, etc.) used to be the center of the LES drug trade, pretty much open-air heroin markets. The back cover of the first Heartbreakers single "Chinese Rocks" includes the line "Dedicated to the boys on Norfolk St."

i definitely prefer those streets on that side of Essex to the ones west of Essex. it's weird that the LES, which is itself a subdivision of what was a broader 'LES', in itself has quite distinct areas. Like around Ludlow is one kind of thing, all those basement shops west of Essex is another quite different thing, the projects bit is another, then the Seward Park / Dimes Square thing is different again. It's not like it's a big area geographically speaking.

open air drugs markets are something I don't think I've ever seen in England, or even heard of ever exisiting, maybe others will correct me. Don't think they exist in NYC anymore, but I saw one very obviously in Baltimore. and then I think we've covered what california is like on here before.
