not "new" but processing that makes every female vocal performance sound exactly the same. distinctive voices cancelled, I guess.

Now that I'm looking closer, it might just be general disco tropes

here in this other wise melancholic song youve got the treble tremolo strummed guitar

Bandcamp.
Is bandcamp still on the up or am I just out of the loop? With the ease one can get their music on Spotify and Youtube tailoring itself as a music host it seems BC enthusiasm has waned. Not that the platform isnt great, but I remember years ago there was the belief that BC had the potential to be some revolutionary force.

It's pretty big and growing rapidly right now I think, a couple years ago I could only really find a small fraction of labels I wanted to shop from on there and now it's a very safe bet a label has a bandcamp. They've been waiving their fees the first Friday of every month which means an insane amount of music is getting released, it's kind of overwhelmed my inbox.

Just announced they're extending it to the end of the year as well: https://crackmagazine.net/2020/07/bandcamp-fridays-2020/

Yeah, the Bandcamp Friday's are such a great move by the company. It was really that I had in mind when I posted. I think it will really buy people's (and creator's) loyalty. Ethically, BC and Spotify are universes apart. Though I guess Spotify might be the populist choice.

But yeah, I also have an absolute deluge of new music to listen to from Bandcamp and I know the monies paid have gone straight to the artist. What's not to love?

It did make me think how outdated rockist arguments seem in light of this. This endless amount of fascinating things to sample - who even cares what rock bands are doing, if they've exhausted the form? So what?
