Yeah, that aspect of Inglorious Basterds and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood made me uncomfortable. I'm not sure if that was intentional, on Tarantino's part.

The violence in Once upon a time... was so gruesome and OTT that I feel like QT was deliberately flagging up how unrealistic it is to imagine history's villains getting their 'just' dessert. Just like the fairytale ending with Sharon Tate surviving.

Would argue the opposite. It depicts the futility of revenge and by inference foregrounds the significance of forgiveness.

IB is just a bunch of bs.
I’m not talking about the moral lesson in the film overall though, and won’t spoil it... I’m talking about how you feel as a man watching the violent acts. Do you enjoy the aggression, urge it on.. does it give you a kick that’s different to other violence on screen? Why?

As in Meadows is addressing contrition and forgiveness, which came full circle with The Virtues and his disclosure of childhood sexual abuse. Don’t get me wrong, he does it well enough to give you a wee adrenaline surge but, post disclosure, his works line up with far more depth thematically.

Working with addicts, you encounter the bad boy chiller every day. You have to look clients in the eye and do everything you can to gain their trust. They can test you through intimidation, but if you work with them long enough various similarities profiling ‘life maps‘ have too much in common to ignore. Our role is to refer as many as possible with these traumas on to the appropriate treatment pathways. Not easy. Recidivism is all too frequent. The gateway drugs? Fags and alcohol.

I did Krav for a while. It’s genius self defence. The aim is not to get grounded, so drills often involve 5 onto 1. Can you drop one and then escape. Never started a ruck in my life, so when you father children the risks escalate. How can you protect and encourage the freedoms of risk learning? Got 3 boys, so it’s enough splitting them up from their own conflicts, hormones etc. All too often I wonder if I’ve made the right choices here, given the toxicity of the world they’re exploring.

Who would be the most useless people on Dissensus in a fight?

Luke and me, obviously, also Edmund, Leo, Jenks and Poetix, I reckon.

Yeah, Corpse! What if you had to defend the honour of Dissensus against some rich dilettantes from ILM?
