Has there been a thread where we collectively work through our relationship with The Wire yet?

It's a very complicated issue. I love it and yet instinctively rebel against it. It's probably one of the things that has influenced and shaped me the most and yet i don't agree with much of it. Oedipal urges are strong.

Agreed with you Luke. Why is it so hard to get someone writing decently about rap?

Doesn't matter, he replaced you. That makes him an enemy of Dissensus.

This, and their egregious musical crime of support for HF, means I might have to cancel The Wire.

It crops up fairly often as a topic. I think part of it is as a print product, it's given to intellectualising rather than more populist enjoyments of music. It was staking a place out in the market before the music press effectively died. I'm sure it's run on a shoestring still, but strikes me it's probably well placed for the current era of Bandcamp and more niche listening.

The radio show is better than you might think - tends to be more of a focus on electronic dance music than unlistenable improv (I say this as a fan of unlistenable improv).

I would like them more if they'd invited me to write for them. I certainly could have used the money. But as they didn't I feel I can happily cancel them.

They did ask those well-known musical experts Owen Hatherely and Nina Power, though.

youtube is good in that sense. its provided a platform and a path to Riches and Fame for people who usually arent let through the door. in the same way the pirates used to. because you dont have the usual clueless cynical and patronising gatekeepers in place.

Spotify has pushed the new BBCC at me. Dunno if this is a general push or if I'm being targeted cos I listen to garage on here.

Probably true. Or else I've just forgotten the thread cos I've not even thought about Bad Boy Chiller Crew until Spotify pushed it at me this morning.

Not quite as punchy that. Not as fully realised. Doesn't have the same confidence. Feels half hearted and listless
