Cheer myself up
Put the radio on, get the magazine out
And read about the 'Essence of Tong'

Checklist:
I never leave home without:
1. Sunglasses - I wear them all year around, and seem to need them more often, it's a habit
2. Music - cassettes, CDs
3. Palm Pilot - it's my lifeline. I think it's my P.A.'s computer, she rules my diary and I download it
4. Mobile phone
5. Amex card - they made such a fuss about giving it to me but I spend more time getting it turned down

I was in the realm of the essence of Tong

I saw another one on The Quietus the other day, but haven't gotten round to it yet.

Wu-Tang Clan, William Blake, The Fall & The Hidden City

Trudging through the inverted worlds of Staten Island, Putney and Prestwich come a crew of rappers, a poet/ engraver and a dyspetic singer, says Tom Ellen. They steel themselves against the disappointment of the surface world - the feeling of 'Is this it?' - by doodling on the maps of their cities, adding monsters and demons, gods and angels, hidden passageways and secret portals.

Neither was I. You just reminded me I had another thing from them about The Fall bookmarked.

anyway my pick is "The grotesque peasants stalk the land

And deep down inside you know everybody wants to like big companies"

the 2nd line feels more relevant day after day to me alot of "countercultural types"
really deep down wishing things would be easier if they just cheered for the side that has the most money because on the surface it looks "easier" than being all DIY/independant etc

I'm picturing Robert Macfarlane if he lurked on here. It seems tailor-made for Dissensus, so Dissensus will obviously hate it.

I quite like the concept of that quietus article, but it's the quietus, so I refuse to read it.

Just looked up markesmith on wiki and it said one of his influences is colin wilson. This interested me, as I'd just yesterday been reading brian masters book about jeffrey dahmer, which cites colin wilson – Colin Wilson wrote a book about the history of crime that i came across (metaphorically) in a second hand shop when I was about 17 and which briefly was a hugely influential book on me, though in a way I can no longer remember.

Here it is in PDF form http://www.crowhealingnetwork.net/pdf/Colin Wilson - A Criminal History Of Mankind.pdf
