I really should check out some of the later fall albums out properly some day. I love everything up to Bend Sinister, but I feel like something happened to his voice after that that I don't like as much. Hard to say what, cos he's never been able to sing properly.

i dont think we all get less appealing as a matter of course. some people only become tolerable past 50.

Yeah I really don't like seeing footage of him when he was drunk. Prefer him totally wired as opposed to sloppy and slurry and rambling.

This is from the 2000s and it's brilliant. One of the heaviest basslines I've ever heard;

I believe Liza introduced me to that song. When she put it on and started singing along it was one of the purest reactions I have ever seen anyone have to a piece of music. Pleasure I guess, but more than that, her face had all care and everything else wiped away from it... I've heard that description or similar many times before, we all have I'm sure, but, like many such figures of speech, it's used quite easily or casually without REALLY being true, this time was one of the few when it really really was true. I wouldn't say this to her but it was... kinda weird, she looked almost like an imbecile, kinda pre-thought or something.

I don't mean that as an insult although it sort of can't help but sound like one. Really it's enviable to have that kind of connection to a piece of music. I wonder if I or most people ever have that... maybe I/we/they do, perhaps I'm giving it extra weight cos it was so visible on her face, I dunno. Whatever... whether or not it did mean anything or not, it certainly made a strong impression on me that I won't forget.
