Ravey New York dance music - late 80s-early 90s

Pearsall's like a professional dj though isn't he? With proper decks and a mixer and all the 'rekkids'. He's probably got original vinyl copies of the entire bonesbreaks series filed away on his record shelves. I've been reduced to the free version of virtual dj and youtube.
not a professional, just a very interested (obsessed?) nerd! ;) I couldn't do a mix of the thread as I only have a few of the records

an Armand van Helden mix is possible as I have a lot of his stuff, but not the other bits, only have a few of those

So I was thinking about this and I have an idea, and people can let me know if they hate it or like it.

I'm happy to spend an hour or two this weekend to pull together a Discogs list of every release in this thread and then figure out a rough price to get 40 tracks for a serious mix which would cover about two hours of music (assuming roughly three minutes per track). I have maybe 5-10 things from the thread, but I would need to get a bunch more stuff to do it justice.

I think a whole mix of tracks from this thread mixed from original vinyl would be pretty great!

Then to help pay for it, I could then make a Paypal money pool or something like that and people could throw a few Euros in to the pile (I would match it), and I could use the money to buy the records and do the mix. Hell, we could make it a Dissensus special, with a proper cover, maybe some words if anyone wants to contribute, and a digital file of the mix in lossless and 320 kbps mp3 formats.

So it would be something a bit special for the community, if that sounds interesting?

if it's a terrible idea, then we can speak of it no more, but if people are into it then I think we could make it a reality in the next month or two.

Nice idea @Pearsall, i'd be up for that. Something special for the forum. I know you'd make a great job of it. Wouldn't it cost a small fortune though? Maybe not, I've got no idea about record prices these days.

nice idea but yeah, expect this might get expensive. postage alone really sucks for record buying nowadays.

One of us needs to get in there quick before someone nicks the idea - these dissensus threads get mined heavily and we rarely if ever receive credit.

We underestimate this. Juke and shuffling and grime in particular

I'll figure out what it would cost, if it's going to be hundreds then it doesn't happen, if it's the equivalent of a pint or two each it's not too bad, no?

That's why I done that trillium thread. Everyone was nicking off him like they nicked off me I know how the game works these days

Yes Ive seen this happen several times over the years. The Jackin and uk funky threads as well - remember that Petchy piece in the Quietus? I wonder where that came from.

get back to us with an estimate. (I feel like I'm getting the roof repaired or building painted...)

I'd imagine you'll hit $100 pretty quickly, even the stuff that's not rare is going to run $8-10 a pop, plus another fiver for postage (or more, depending on where it ships from).

since I'm such a swell guy, I'd even donate a couple of bonesbreaks to the cause...
