Stuff that fed into the uk rave scene and reminds you of hardcore, basically. House, techno and hip hop colliding. Samples, breakbeats, divas and feverish energy. Not boring.

Almost anything goes if its from NY in the given timeframe but please keep it ravey - there's already a deep house and garage thread.

amazing that we;ve come to think of New York as a synonym for boring when they produced all this at one point
That's exactly why i started the thread. Woebot kind of challenged it first. I got into Todd Terry cos of his blog, and later the NY mix he did really opened my eyes to how good it all was.

Plus we needed a counterweight to the (amazingly long) deep house thread.

"The sonic argument here is that, in real terms, in genres spawned and ideas conceived, New York was the true sonic innovator of the golden era of dance music (1984-96). New York gave us House (the epicentre moved from Chicago quite quickly), Rave (Beltram, Landlord), Trance (Revelation - first trance track IMHO), Ambient House (the likes of Sound Waves), Jazz House (Burrell), and Dub Techno - Dubstep, even! (Bobby Konders)."
