It's not that the music is bad. It's just paint by numbers. He doesn't deserve this honour.

Yeah, that's it. He's fun, the tunes are solid and he's managed to carve out his own little world.

He's got this odd sense of retro about him which doesn't quite conform to the past. He's using old gear and reference points, but it's this strange patchwork you only get from him.

Yeah, and it's a world you can step into with a fully realised aesthetic and set of parameters to play with. His online presence is hard to beat. The webzines, the website, the youtubes. Just a guy with a big imagination doing what he likes to do and being good at it.

He's got a good handle on kosher kitsch. In other hands it would be tryhard hipster shit but with him it's just this chintzy zone of shag rugs, potted plants and synths

yeah, and a certain prog influence. if he were born 30 years earlier, he'd be doing Emerson lake & palmer type shit. I remember posting a few legowelt tunes not that long ago, his House of Jezebel version of "Love & Happiness". not sure which thread, a bunch people posted (or at least version and patty)

It's pure escapism, like jumping into a cartoon rocket and jetting off into space or getting sucked into an Amiga game.

@catalog went on a bit of a Legowelt tear not that long ago, espousing his website n stuff. It really is worth a look:

At random he'll release a sample pack from one of his synths or a custom ableton device for making your shit sound like it went through an old VHS machine. He captures that morning breakfast table energy, waiting for the little toy to fall out of the cereal box..
