the 00s/teens equivalent of 80s action homoeroticism btw is the comedy bromance

the testosterone levels are vastly lower (weed instead of steroids) and the sexual tension isn't as fierce or overt

but the two male characters are still clearly, vastly more interested in each other than their wives, gfs, etc

think Paul Rudd and/or Seth Rogen in any given Judd Apatow movie
This is effectively the dynamic with bunk and mcnulty in the wire. and then later freamon gets involved. And greggs is basically a bloke as well.

if you've ever fought consensually or sparred with someone, you'll know it's maybe the closest you can be to another person besides sex

(streetfights etc don't work the same, the element of danger is uncontrolled so the fear is much different)

there is an intense shared physicality only sex overtakes

it doesn't have to be erotic at all but even when it isn't - watch professional fighters frequently hug when the fight ends
@padraig (u.s.) have you ever been in a street fight?

All the chat in the other thread has reminded me of this thread and one of my all time favourite films Scum.

Can we go for a burn sir?

I think I told this story before but when I was at uni I was really into it so my friends who I lived with used to affectionately refer to me as "the daddy" and when they all went to Amsterdam they came back with a keyring which said "Anyone can be a father but it takes someone special to be a daddy" which was very touching. Of course ive lost it.

What's that weird film where Steve Coogan ams Paul Rudd are a dissatisfied couple whose relationship is... well, not exactly saved, but shaken up a bit by the arrival of a delinquent boy relative they have to look after? Rudd hides behind a beard so big that I literally did not recognise him until about halfway through the film.
