I think that was the mistake he was making, assuming distraction and stimulation is the opposite of boredom. I don't think it really is.

Capitalism can find ways to zap your neurons and distract you for a while but it can't satisfy you. It can turn your attention away from your boredom but it can't cure it

It's why Bartys new labour politics maps perfectly onto his aesthetics because new labour is the end of political resistance

Instead of confrontation you accept your position of weakness and beg for concessions and favours.

Ben Watson was always furious with Deleuze and Guattari. He blamed them for transgenders. I always thought it was weird but I can see his point now. Once you collapse the oppositions you lose the energy

lmao wtf! trans people existed long before deleuze and guattari. tell him to do some speed and give up spliff. Gender is just social relations for perpetuating the labour force of class societies, it too must be abolished and feminists must be made to cry when no woman and no man exists, only pure databorg.

i swear oxbridge students never do real drugs. this is why i keep telling everyone to whip emselves silly on webcam in a maoistic struggle session to give up weed. It's a CIA plot! Weed is the ultimate drug for boredom! It turns boredom into pure blank. you are bored, but no longer angry that you are bored.

always amusing how in many white collar professions, people work for a few years, get "bored" and make a lateral or perhaps slightly higher-level move to another company in the same industry, convincing themselves that it's a fresh start, a new beginning...when, of course, chances are it's the same treadmill they were on at their previous job, just with different scenery and colleagues. sometimes the bump in salary makes them forget about the sameness for awhile longer, but it returns eventually and they start the job search cycle again.

Way late here, but there was talk in the early pages that this was cold, cynical, excessively conscious and post modern etc. and I find the experience of actually listening to be the exact opposite of that. First impression of this guy is that his music was incredibly warm and earnest, emotionally compelling even. And fun, it feels like Senni has alot of fun making this stuff, and not just in the sense that the music can feel as simple as listening to a guy indulge in the simple pleasure of finding cool arps on his synth- theres a real sense of playfulness to the way he uses rythmn, sound pallet, and melody not unlike how Herb Alpert, Yellow Magic Orchestra and the early Eno solo pop albums do the same for me (I think its because none of these guys are at all bashful at how they use the three are to reach very plain stated ends.)

(I think its because none of these guys are at all bashful with the tone are trying to achieve and how they use the universal musical tools to accomplish it)

Im not sure Senni's music presents as hyper aware because it wants to ask the question 'what now?' but rather 'wouldn't it be nice to feel like this right now?'

Calling it ironic doesnt feel right, I think that may be listener projection

Ooh that’s good. That’s the interesting bit there

you’re right the irony / sincerity dichotomy doesnt work here

This is what i meant by trapped screen music. I think its good but it still fails to connect

wouldn’t it be nice to feel this way? wouldnt it be nice to enjoy the naivety and sentimentality of trance unjaded? Wouldnt it be nice to be unrestricted by identity, self awareness, conceptual thinking? Wouldnt it be nice for something to actually hit emotionally, free from the package. Something thats not cliche, trite, twee, ironic. something new?

It doesn't fail to connect. It doesn't try to connect. It says we can't connect. It is no longer a possibility. We have the forms and we can play with them, but they have lost their virtue.

yes don’t disagree really but the framing of ‘wouldn’t it be nice to?’ Acknowledges that and allows for artistic intent beyond just parody

I didn't think it was parody per se. I've framed it in a different and more serious way. I've allowed for artistic and intellectual intent. I've said it's a diagnosis and a prescription. Neither of which appeal to me but which I take seriously and am troubled by etc. It's really just the impasse of postmodernism restated but even so.
