you won't be able to take recreational drugs. You won't have margins necessary. We're not quite there yet but we are well on the way and add to that the normalisation of steroids and body fascism etc

as I've said before, the DotD thread is only partially about food. it's also about the social element of cooking, creativity, ritual. we don't care that @Mr. Tea eats mushrooms; it's more interesting to learn about his foraging exploits, deep knowledge and creative cooking skills related to said mushrooms. and also the fancy striped dress shirts, cufflinks and Casio he wears at dinner.

Yeah, large swathes of culture seems like cheerleading for capitalism rather than its critique.

I don't rate Bruce Sterling as a writer but he said something in an old interview that always stuck with me and turned out to be bang on the money. He said people in the future won't take recreational drugs they will take performance enhancing drugs to get ahead or stay afloat in capitalism
Do you think microdosing LSD, and such things, could qualify as performance-enhancing? Does it just depend on the person, rather than some objective neurochemical thing?

Culture as resistance is completely gone. There is only cheerleading left. That's what Barty kept saying when he was trying to get everyone into Migos.

It is actually a fascinating piece of biology though your gut - - average size about 22 ft long. Turns food into shit. That's pretty strange.

Of course. It's specifically framed as performance enhancing. All the rhetoric around microdosing is boardroom/office-pen focussed

There is critique from the left but it seems so ritualised now, like they don't even believe it.

But given its quite hard to genuinely warm to culture as cheerleading for capitalism there's a bit of an impasse. As everyone has now noticed.

If you can't beat them, join them?

Barty doesnt believe in Them. That's why he doesn't believe in the left, or resistance, or rebellion or anything along those lines. It's why he's New labour and Migos.

Capitalism being doughnut-shaped's stuck with me. That it wants the outside to attack the inside, the edge to attack the centre. It all ends up being absorbed. I bought Capitalist Realism from Amazon. There's a Communism and Marxism section on their site. It just becomes another market.

There's an economic model called doughnut economics funnily enough. The outer edge is the limits of sustainability and the inner edge is the social foundation necessary for people to flourish.
Seems somehow gut related to me as from some angles that could be seen as a massive doughnut
