It's kind of a long, rambling one. Starts off with a load of stuff from Drumetrics label which are kinda like a fake library thing with loads of drums.
Basically, we have two radio shows at the moment, one on Threads* radio which is based in London - they effectively have two channels, Threads (which is people based in London) and Threads* which is from people all round Europe, each month we make a two hour mix and send it to them. We also have a show on East Side Radio which is based in Lisbon - I dunno if it comes across when we do it but this is a totally different experience, we go into the station and hang out with the guys who run it - Andre and Tiago - who are totally lovely guys and make it all loads of fun, it's in a temporary spot and there is a big paddling pool (well, better described as a temporary swimming pool cos it's (like 5m x 3m or something and about five feet deep) and you can go for a dip in between tunes or whatever, there is a fridge full of beer. The shows used to be one hour per month, but with covid they've kinda consolidated it so that instead of having four or five djs turning up every day, each dj just goes in and plays for four hours - I guess so you don't have loads of people going in and out and spreading disease. Normally we're hungover, just grab a random bag of records and play whatever we've taken with us slowly getting drunk. The odd mistake may creep in an (ahem) and it's not really planned, but hopeful;y you will hear a load of good tunes. Would be keen to hear what you think of the selections... guess they might not necessarily be the stuff you normally listen to but any feedback at all of how it sounds to you would be really welcome.

Actually... @suspendedreason I've just listened back to this and I remember the day in fact, we got back from a double-all-nighter at 10am, managed to get our head down for an hour or so and then jumped up, grabbed a really unplanned section of records and rushed to the station in time. I reckon it is most cock-up riddled one - I think Liza was trying to use the cdjs and she didn't know how they were set up or something so the sound in the headphones was being recorded as well over the tune playing - and also, by the end, it seems that we were really rather refreshed so the new tune keeps crashing in really messily... BUT I'm definitely not saying don't listen to it, cos, I think that, despite all that. And rather strangely the tune selection is not just really good (in my opinion obviously - your mileage may vary) but also it has a kind of flow in the main that it has no right to have given the haphazard way it was selected (apart from the drumetrics stuff I guess).
But yeah please do listen to it - I would be extremely keen to hear your thoughts. I can direct you in the direction of a slightly polished one if you like afterwards but I am surprised by the quality of the tune selection.
ps if you listen carefully you might notice that I set the tone for the whole thing by playing the first tune at the wrong speed for about 30 secs...

If you do want to hear something quite a lot more polished then give this a go. I guess my aim is to go from weird 60s psych to this kinda slow-mo dance music and make it work. Don't really have that figured out yet that though sadly so this is just the latter half of that concept - on the plus side though this is a mix with far fewer cock-ups that we were genuinely pleased with and which is the kind of stuff I tend to play for people to dance to in clubs - I just listened to it again and it still sounds good to me.

Ha, this must be y'all! Lookin good, though perhaps a little hungover here as well?

Drumetrics stuff makes good programming noises.

Europe seems to have a much better radio scene than the States, it's mostly just college radio around here. Maybe a difference with laws around pirate radios? Is East Side/Threads just online or pirate fm?

If Lisbon's anything like Andre and Tiago's place, it sounds like a swell time

@IdleRich You know, I'd been meaning to get into PIL ever since I started listening to Jah Wobble collabs... @WashYourHands's top 100 list had some really amazing tracks by JW, including the amazing Chinese Orchestra record. Then I was digging "This Is Not A Love Song" on your mix, and looked it and there ya go, it's PIL! Where ya reckon I should start with their discography?

Wicked, thanks for listening., Metal Box is often seen as the classic I guess. With Poptones and so on.
Yeah, we were well and truly hungover I think.
There is a good radio scene in a sense, in that there are lots of people putting on radio stations with varied and interesting shows.... but... i'm not sure how many listeners there are out there. Andre and Tiago are great though yeah, we've dj-d with them in Porto and in the Algarve and they've sorted us some really nice bookings and really supported us a lot.

PIL was big FU to closed-minded punks and the media who wanted Lydon to do Sex Pistols 2.0, great first three albums of deliberately dubbed out weirdness. "second edition/metal box" still sounds like nothing else, led off in fine fashion with the 10-minute psych-dirge of him "getting rid of the albatross". I stopped paying attention after Levene left, although "rise" is a decent latter-day PiL track.
