that ikonikia mix is the kinda mix make a man throw his cheap controller he bought himself to keep pre-occupied during self-isolation in the fucking bin...
I find a lot of the FOLD mixes are really good for that. You can really pay attention to what they're doing, especially with the birds eye view, and get that proper feeling of inadequacy

tunes being referred to as 'woolworths' is something i couldnt be more on board with.

It's an observation I've picked up on listening back to mixes and hearing the tempo of amapiano tracks increased to an unnatural speed of 120+ BPM, when they usually sit comfortably below that. The UK lifestyle and pace, especially here in London, lends to a more upbeat tempo built on the foundations of garage, UK funk and grime, so it's no surprise that there's temptation to push the tempo beyond its origins.
It's like speed garage 2021.

I heard it pitched up the other day on Flex FM and it didn't sound right

The real speed of this stuff is a difficult transition, I agree, but it does eventually click. I have been watching a lot of the balcony sessions though and listening in proper context does help

Oh man I love this ikonika set

I keep thinking I'm not arsed about this genre/sound and then I listen to a bit of it and I'm enthusiastic again

I agree. it loses the low slung menace and there's a floating, sort of suspension to the bass that is lost at a faster pace. sef kombo talks about djs playing sa ama too fast here and honestly, i've only been like slapped in the face by how fast it is when i stumble across a marcus nasty set lol

Wiley has got a new IG account and has been going live regularly broadcasting his mini raves/blues, more often than not playing amapiano

There was one of him from Victoria park with Lee B3 Edwards and DJ Shotime, one of the AMAUK crew (https://www.instagram.com/amaukelite/) back on bank holiday. Wiley posted a video of a rented generator, looks like he's ready to pop up anywhere at the moment, hardcore spirit still in motion

Growzie is a producer in AMA UK, he dropped a load of music last Bandcamp day, well worth a dig through

Sick tracks as always and solid new collab between Razzlerman and someone I didn't catch the name of in this show at 14mins

putting this one here just as a proper oddity, not very good but must show some kind of global cultural production network in action. Japanese gqom enthusiast makes an amapiano LFO remix

KG - Sensei II. Continuing on the path to fully blowing. Serious vision in the music, artwork, thought and collaboration behind this project

Did this already get posted? If Sef Kombo is on the conservative side, Scratcha is the accelerationist

This mix is one of the best recent ones I've heard in this sound, makes sense as these two are the big boi producers

Second track in there is a sick VIP of Scotti Dee's Lost in Abyss

Heard these two on Neptizzle's show on Rinse recently, on the more pop amapiano side that's actually from SA... both stood out cuz I love an emotional hook

I'm into the face dancing from the Major League DJz in the vid too, they look like proper nutters

Killer edit by Mak 10

quite distressing what's actually happening in SA right now though, can't really make sense of it from the news yet
