Can you enlarge on that last point? He didn't talk about his partner so she suspects... what exactly? Is she accusing him of murder, suggesting that he has killed her and then chopped her into pieces, dissolving as much of the remains as possible in an acid bath and burying the rest under the patio where he likes to serve tea to guests, deriving a twisted pleasure in knowing that they are scoffing custard creams in blissful ignorance of the fact that just below where they sit her eyeless skull gazes eternally up at them? And hence he tries to steer the conversation away from her in case he incriminates himself.

Or is she simply saying that he has no partner at all and that he is some kind of delusional psychopathic fantasist who uses his lack of compunction and normal human feeling to ingratiate himself into groups of people, growing slowly closer, inserting himself into their lives and turning each against the others for his own perverse amusement ... until one day someone notices an inconsistency in his story and his web of lies comes crashing down, at which point he will ruthlessly murder everyone in the group before moving on to his next set of victims?

Or maybe she thinks that cos he went a couple of days without mentioning his partner he must be a closeted homosexual who has developed a sick infatuation with Linebaugh, stalking him across the internet from forum to chatroom, drawing ever closer until finally he has engineered a meeting, preparatory to murdering everyone Limburger knows, kidnapping him and - after tenderly and lovingly removing all his limbs and cauterising the wounds - keeping him in a box in the cellar as his gimp upon whom he will frequently enact the most unimaginably depraved sexual tortures, all the while whispering in his ear about how much he loves him?

Or does she think that the explanation is something dark and possibly even a little sinister?

It's a way of aggregating preferences/utility between a group of individuals. I.e logically formalizing collective decision making. Mechnaism design is a layer on top of this. It involves creating some incentive system or "mechanism" to "implement" the social welfare/choice function via incentives.

The reason why I ask is because I was reading an article about mechanism design and some of it's practical issues when used as a tool of public policy.

I think there's a connection between her critique and your idea of surrogation. specifically mechanism design is often a surrogate for "justice" because mechanism design based systems are more seemingly objective and tractable. They can more easily get public buy in. Hitzig uses the Boston school system as a case study of this phenomenon.
Wait why do these people need nudging if the state is just implementing their desires

And if you have, can you get me a dj gig somewhere in NY? Doesn't have to be anywhere good, I just want an excuse for a holiday really and a new country to put on my CV.

@snav is a much better resource for this. But it would be very fun to have you play a set. I'll poke around see what and who I know

It's weird cos at the moment I have no passport... I lost mine and applied for a new one in January but no sign yet... and next weekend we dj in Dusseldorf... looks like I will need to apply for an emergency travel document.
But once it's sorted then the world will be our oyster and I really wanna try and get some gigs abroad.

In all honesty I haven't really DJ-d abroad THAT often (to be clear, if I have got overexcited at times and implied that I am in any way a successful DJ then it was a bit of an exaggeration to say the least), but yeah, on the rare occasions when we do get asked to DJ somewhere that needs travel then I always have done. Right now I don't really have a choice cos I barely know how to make cdjs or a controller work and I don't have files I could use of the stuff I have and want to play.

However when I get the chance I like to mess around on my mate's controller thing and I believe there is a way to copy from a record to a USB at high enough quality right? So I should practise more and burn at least one set's worth for starters and then slowly add more.

I love playing abroad, meeting people and hanging out with them, seeing their city and getting fucked up etc and part of that can be flicking through each other's records and stuff. Plus you do actually feel as though you have achieved something by lugging it all there... though when you are boarding a plane and you see through the window the porters merrily chucking all the luggage around then you start to think maybe it's not worth it after all...

So, long story short, probably once I've figured it out I will stop carrying records... maybe even by the time of the gig that @suspended and @snav just faithfully promised that they will absolutely definitely beyond any shadow of a doubt book for me in NY.

It would be wicked fun if you just hired a bar and you, me, Leo, Shaka and any other US dissensoids (Mvuent, Linebaugh, Stan?) who are in range of NY all had a quick go on the controls. Not a clubnight, just a Dissensus meet-up where we controlled the music and inflicted it on any other patrons who were lucky enough to be drinking there... obviously I'm getting a bit ahead of myself now but that is something that could feasibly happen one day and which I am certain would be extremely enjoyable. I'm already looking forward to it.. cannot wait, not just the DJ-ing but it should certainly be a highlight when @Clinamenic shows me the coolest bars in Williamsburg as too will be beating @linebaugh at basketball though maybe the thing I'm looking forward to most of all is dinner at @Leo's..

This could happen, between all of us I'm sure we could drum up enough friends to cover bar fees either in alcohol purchases or covers
