Political questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of nerd cred?

A better question might be "why didn't China just take it back?" given that it was right there and it's hugely valuable real estate and so on.

Having watched sports in my time, the primary reason is boredom & the desire to vicariously re-live my formative athletic experiences. "Wow, so much camaraderie, imagine how they feel right now, everything's on the line, adrenaline pumping" (blood rushes in my ears)

it's also like a soap opera for conservatives and progressive liberals, they like to follow the drama and storylines. I know I do.

but i've always found that odd as well. why would you respect some sort of treaty or agreement that was made hundred years ago under unfair conditions?
Because reputational capital is important going forward. Same reason any of us keep our (public) word!

I laughed but then I realised this might be a genuine question.

It's a surreal comic for adults with loads of sex gags and also has a funny letters page. I think it's 2 brothers from Newcastle so it's got a very northern perspective. More an 80s 90s thing really.

It has a load of recurring characters, like "the fat slags" who are 2 girls who love shagging but love eating more. What else. Roger Mellie, the man on the tellie, a sort of bad TV reporter, always getting into scrapes.

Not really politics so much as smut in general but it does do a bit of political satire.

I used to buy a spin off / copy that was more aimed at teenagers called "zit".

viz at its best glories in the horribleness of the UK, horrible character types, horrible inevitability of squalor, horrible grindingness of normality, a kind of sick joy in how shit this country and our people all are.

My brother had a subscription and - strangely enough, considering she's not English - so did my girlfriend. In fact she really reintroduced me to it since I'd kinda forgotten about it. And fair enough, some of it is very very funny.

It's not just that though.... I don't think it - Viz - is so grim. It doesn't really celebrate the grimness as it takes the piss out of it really.
