I cant get over the casting. No one that looks like zendaya is a guerilla warrior and momoa looks more like a wrestler than bautista
Zendaya is only on screen for like 2 min... Bautista seemed miscast though, he was supposed to be a scarily rage-filled beast... but seemed more confused and sulky.

I'm hearing Zendaya's name a lot in reviews but having googled her I only know her as the girlfriend from Spiderman. Is she a big deal in the US?
I saw her in a thing called Euphoria, I guess it was kinda a US answer to Skins with loads of teenagers scandalously taking drugs and having sex - except it didn't feel that scandalous cos, as is always with American things like this, the actors playing teenagers were all pushing 30.

Interesting (or is it) who the pin ups or icons of the moment are. Chalamet e.g. seems very "2021" to me - androgynous. But he could be just be a rebore "heroin chic" Jonny Depp style figure for teenage girls.

BR 2049 wasn't that great but it was better than the original Blade Runner at least.
It is an opinion. I do not share it, I respect it. For me, even Screamers or Paycheck are better insights into Dick's universe. Webb People's script is weak, does not make any sense, and does retrocontuinity as a personal vendetta against Hamptor Fancher's correction of his script for the original Blade Runner. The story is bonkers in the worst way, but it is only my view.

has anyone here seen it yet?
I saw it at home, enjoyed it overall. Haven't read the book, nor did I complete the Lynch film.

I admired the scale of it, and the mythic ambiance. I remember Arrival and Bladerunner 2049 having a similarly austere vibe, withdrawn and intense performances, etc.

What other examples of mythic sci-fi are there, especially at this scale? An interesting alternative, in terms of popular cinematic mythos, to the MCU.

Also thought it was astropolitically interesting, not sure how it would compare with Star Wars in that capacity.

The Dune Cinematic Universe. An attractor for A-list actors, although MCU is already one itself. Blockbuster auteur, etc.

Star Wars has some mythic elements, what with the Force and the various orders (Jedi/Sith) built around it. But Star Wars seems more playful in tone than does Dune. Being more serious, Dune (or the likes thereof) may arouse in the popular consciousness more of an interest in futuristic religion.

Actually Bladerunner 2049 had a similar techgnostic strain to it, with Leto's character being a sort of techno-corporate messiah.

Yeah good point. I watched this a couple years ago. There is a whole gnostic conceptual framework to the Matrix Trilogy

Its almost kabbalistic. Before anthroposophy, Steiner started in theosophy, which presumably incorporated kabbalah in some way. Not sure if the Watchowskis count themselves among theosophy or anthroposophy traditions.

Yeah get it on a big screen, find something mind altering, you won't regret it.
