This is probably a boomer thing, and why I don't blame any of you—how could you know better, when you grew up only with official channels, when there were only 2-3 channels on television? But the world's changed, and some NYU graduates whose primary expertise and occupation is prestige-mongering—well, I'll pass on giving a shit what they think about anything.

Iraq War bloggers online—nerds who read constantly, have spent ten years thinking about the history of conflict, PhD in military strategy and friends with dozens of junior officers serving overseas.

MSM journalists—spend an hour each morning plucking their nosehairs and getting their shade of salt'n'pepper hair dye right, only friends with other journalists who can serve as career connections, gear most of their thought towards accumulating sophisticated things to say at cocktail parties.

Operationally I’m with @suspended here. My primary interest in MSM is, somewhat like my interest in crypto Reddit, less about acquiring information and more about gauging popular sentiment and average comprehension levels.

And some of these MSM channels serve well as windows into world views of those of older generations, which isn’t to reduce the latter to the former, just to say that the former grants some degree of insight into the latter.

With such gaugings, one can better appreciate what it takes to determine the reality of X contingency/viewership. What values does this viewership tend to lean towards? What characteristics are demonized? What figures are exhibited as exemplifying these characteristics? What phenomena are exhibited as being associated with these figures?

I get all my information and data sets from The Black Lodge (not the Protestant one). Watched S3 of Twin Peaks 253 times as it acknowledges Burroughs was correct all along - 2*5*3

Lessons. Find and observe Judy but from a distance, which is what got Jeffries into what may or may not be an electrical steam kettle bell. Kettle-bell? Does Lynch want us to lift more weights? Might is right?

Which leads to MSM cut ups. See what Polly Toynbee’s column actually reveals. An audio equivalent of Tucker might open him up to being a deeply spiritual man that none of us see because of meme addiction, crypto-Brexit-culture-CHINA-choon wars and, of course, going hard on the lash

1 page ago in this very thread:

In terms of "contemporary media" I get surfaced things from friends on this board, some Discord servers, and Twitter. This board is by far the most political online community I'm part of. If it's important and affects my life, I'll hear about it—I knew about COVID in late January 202, as did this board, so I'm obviously not missing out on anything by ignoring lamestream journalists. Everything else they produce is just garbage two weeks late and mis-interpreted. Why would I sign up for that? If I listened to what "the media" thought I'd have called my mask-wearing friends racists at the start of the pandemic.
OK, I don't doubt your earnest commitment to trying not to consume "political news", but I'm not sure that's really possible, unless you're living off-grid on some tiny island with literally no connection to the outside world. All news is to some extent political, because it's put together by humans and humans are political animals. (And even content aggregator websites operate according to algorithms that were made by people and consequently have a bias baked into them.)

I also think it's a big mistake to write off anything carried in the "MSM" (or LSM, even) as inherently worthless. There is still plenty of good investigative journalism among the dross.

Literally one page ago in the thread:
Look, I'm not in favor of disbanding professional journalism, and the world would almost certainly be a worse place if professional journalism ceased to exist. There's plenty of important work they're doing.

But on the margin, being me or you, trying to figure out what's true and important in this world? Well, there's a reason Gell Mann amnesia is a thing. Choose clued-in people close to the subject area, or even 1-2 degrees via a social network, and they'll produce more reliable insight/advice than "official" channels, time & time out.
Tea this entire conversation is you trying to rebut something I explicitly stated I didn't believe. Can we call it quits before my sanity runs out?

Sigh. I literally knew this was gonna be your gambit, even as I desperately hoped you'd come up with something more sophisticated.

Do you think some news can be more or less political? That some people can be more or less politically engaged?

"Political" as a descriptor is meaningless is everything and everyone is equally inextricably political. Sure, I can agree being purely apolitical is impossible, but you cant deny that there's a meaningful spectrum of how much party politics and theater are a part of ones information diet, ones worldview, ones opinions, etc. "nObOdY iS pErFeCtLy aPoLiTiCAl" isn't the sick gotcha you think it is.

Mr Tea how would you describe the experience of being publicly castrated by a notoruious member of 'the intellectual dark web'?

Sure, my point is only that he's still reading something, and that that something has a political content. It's this pretence of existing somehow outside or above all ideology that I find unconvincing.

Edit - alright, I see you've then said this isn't what you were arguing - but it sounded that way a few pages ago.

I think really you're quite similar to @luka in this respect. You get stuck into a political argument but then get bored of it, or realise you're arguing for something you can't actually support, or whatever, and the you go all "Of course politics is for losers, and I'm not a loser", and pretend you were never invested in the conversation in the first place.

A little display here of journalistic brilliance.

You don't do worse than monkeys because you're uninformed. You do worse because you have a systemic bias that distorts reality.

ive said many times all journalists should be imprisoned and the profession should be criminalised but on the other hand i also think all data should be abolished becasue it is inherently misleading and above all people that publish that publish books with titles like factfulness need to be abolished most of all.
