In Australia and New Zealand they still drink them. The young people used to go to places called Milk Bars to drink malted milkshakes and chastely flirt. A more innocent time.
My nain met my grandad when she worked in a milk bar during the war. There are still quite a few in Hackney, Mile End etc frequented by Muslims who cant go to pubs.

This is true but they are a recent phenomenon.

did some searching, found this on chowhound about dutch restaurants:

I'm Dutch, and a far as I know there are no Dutch restaurants in New York anymore. Typical Dutch food are 'stamppotten', which are casseroles of mashed potatoes combined with different vegetables and meats. There are great recipes online for these casseroles, and other typical Dutch food like meatballs, croquettes, cakes, pies, etc.

come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a dutch restaurant. certainly never eaten in one.
it's because there is no such thing as a dutch cuisine. traditionally it's just a lot of potatoes and some boring tasteless vegetables and a bit of meat. no spices, no herbs, nothing. usually they mash everything together so you can eat it more easily. western european food is gross. from england to holland to germany.

Do you count Portugal in this western horror show? It's great ingredients but limited and lacking spice at times.
