“Portuguese cooking is the worst on earth. Or, at least, the worst of any warm nation on earth. Obviously, Irish cooking could give it a run. Or Polish. But in its leaden, oversalted blandness, the cuisine of Portugal is, at best, what English cooking would be if we had better weather”, Coren wrote in his piece published at the beginning of this month.

Coren also makes reference to the historic allegiance between Portugal and the UK, saying: “It is a creaking truism of international diplomacy that the alliance between Britain and Portugal is the oldest in the world. It is less often observed that the alliance is one based not on political expedience but a mutual love of soggy cod, white bread, overcooked potatoes, plain cheese, sweet wine and cold custard.”

Giles Coren? Such a cunt.

When he likened a sub-editor cutting a word out of his piece to a pissed Irish (again) plasterer destroying a renaissance masterpiece...
He's worse than Toby Young.

Hahaha, that is a quite hilarious level of self-aggrandisement though.

Portuguese is pretty much peasant food, right? at least there's lots of seafood.

Spanish food is probably a cut above Portuguese but not on par with French or Italian.

I dunno... sort of... i dont think so. There is lots of really good food, very tasty witwh great ingredients. Feels a little repetitive though after a while. General standard high. Probably doesn't go as good as the best French but maybe not as bad as the worst. They laugh at Spanish food... but maybe that's just sour grapes.
Compared to living in London though the variety is very lacking - but then the thing that gives London its variety is all the non-English cultures there.
I genuinely really like German food though so what do I know? Also Russian. NL is the only place I've truly thought 'all the food here is bad'.

I do like eating my veggie alternative but looking at them is sort of depressing isn't it

Having said that, I guess there's not a lot in an English breakfast for a vegetarian to get excited about.

hash browns might not be 'traditional' but they're ubiquitous and they're delicious. Halloumi is pretty common now too, also delicious.
I don't like English breakfast tomatoes though. Can live without that.
