Can you change your mind? (the Musical)

Noone on the other CYM thread admits to changing their mind (Jenks was right) and definitely no actual examples or climbdowns, so far anyway...

So here we are in the music forum
  1. What music did you change your mind about?
  2. Why??
  3. Did dissensus make you do it??
Matthew posted this ages ago (Haim original) and so I liked it for a bit but i don't any more

woops

is not like other people

I used to love all the early dubstep stuff but listened to some recently and much of it is so boring. same with lots of minimal techno I used to love.

on the other hand, I used to shit on country music and now can't stop listening to willie nelson.

Feel like I'm being baited. I've twice mentioned changing my mind on Prince after the big thread on here. I guess I'm "no one".

 sorry, you're absolutely right - your conversion was the inspiration for all of this
(Prince doesnt count though)

we need to make a distinction, this thread isn't for music you didn't care for at first but then it grew on you over time. It's for stuff you actively hated and professed that hatred (or vice versa) about and then came full circle on.

I'm with Version on this - wasn't into Prince until I suddenly 'got it' a few years ago. Made myself a small playlist of random songs of his (all from the '80s), as well as stuff by Vanity 6, Sheila E, The Family, Jill Jones etc. There' still loads of his stuff that does nothing for me, but the keepers are bangers.

I was once offered the chance to see him live when I was at school but turned it down on aesthetic reasons, which probably belongs in the 'if you could go back and change anything...' thread. I'm sure I had a smashing night listening to The Pogues in my bedroom for the 100,000 time while my dad roared abuse at the dog.

I didn't previously like uk drill at all- found it way too dour and monochrome after grime.

But reading about it on here, with all the excitement coming through in how it's written about, has really made me hear it in a different way and now ive started really getting into it. That excitement was infectious

Thank you dissensus your work is done. You've turned a 38 year old ex raver onto teenage boy music :)

one producer that i really loved was zomby, now i think most of it is kinda boring and i don't understand what made me so enthusiastic about it back then. actually lots of hyperdub stuff doesn't really do anything for me any more. burial became boring for me too, even though i never was one of those hardcore fanboys.

Dissensus ruined a lot of music for me, primarily dubstep and the more 'intelligent' varieties of jungle.

I can never remember now if I read Energy Flash before or after I came on here. Together, that book and this forum snuck up on the flanks of my innocent devotions and razorfucked them to death.

It was for your own good, Corpse.

My problem (or is it a virtue) is that I can have my mind changed very very easily.

I'm a deeply insecure person so somebody can tell me my favourite song ever is a piece of shit and I'll struggle not to go along with them.

It's as if you're in a marriage with a partner you've always loved, and then one day along comes somebody who says "haven't you ever noticed how weird their nose is?" or "don't you hate the way they laugh?" and suddenly you can't stop fixating on that thing, you realise your marriage was a sham, the only option now is to get a divorce and listen to early DJ Hype records.

Dubstep got me out of the house at least!

I was just thinking this morning how I really miss going to clubs and collectively enjoying music. Whether it's dubstep or whatever else.

Imagine if I had the rhetorical skills and messianic self-belief to convince you that grime was actually a load of absolute shit.

In some branch of the multiverse that's how this relationship works, and Luka curses my name everytime he has to eject an old nasty crew tape cos "it's just schoolboys shouting over casio keyboards".
