I like the mystery of the older OPN gear. I like the later stuff too, but now it's just Dan Lopatin doing his new record on Warp with whichever set of collaborators he fancies using. Bit too slick and professional. There's a magic to the grainy sounds and clips.

every new one comes with a prepackaged narrative too, like here's what the records about. whereas the older stuff just had immensely evocative art and titles and let you do the work.

Are you really? My dad used to cane a couple of her albums when I was a kid. Also Enigma at the same time - I always associate those things for that reason. It's almost like a Pavlovian reaction, or like Proust's madeline or something - takes me straight back to sitting on the floor of the living room where we lived then. I reckon it when we had just bought a cd player and these silver discs seemed really magical. We only had about five of them.

R Plus Seven was the last of those, I think. There's something really mysterious about that cover art.

I meant OPN likes her but yeah Im drawn back to the music, I feel a nostalgia alongside a learned revulsion to naff new age and rural Irish tourism ad associations

undeniably the best music ever made and a huge influence on all of the big dissensus touchpoints... jungle, aquatic dancehall, lord of the rings, burial, vaporwave, heidegger

All that stuff is really depressing just total rubbish sound of someone who is bored of life

Early on he had a minor talent for creating an eerie mood and describing abandoned digital space still humming with computer monitor light. That was what he had to offer. He should stop now and get a real job.

Weird thing I just don't remember the music to Uncut Gems at all, I keep reading about how powerful it was but I never even noticed it.
