Oneohtrix Point Never

this was always my beef w the night slugs fade to mind etc stuff. it's like they think bc they can make rihanna remixes they can make rihanna songs. their attempts at doing pop music are so turgid and boring.

stay in ur lane is what you're saying then

nah idc about lanes! just about results. i'm sure there are counterexamples but it usually ends up sounding overworked and overthought.

yeezus is a good counter example but it's dif when its like kanye as controlling auteur w/ stable of collaborators vs james blake and trim or w/e

you'd need to define experimental nerd producers too. do you only mean white and warp affiliated IDM proximity bros? aren't most producers affiliated with emergent dance music and rap experimental bedroom nerds

Well nowadays being a producer means spending all day on a computer same as every other job but yes I was thinking in terms of the scenes they are embedded in rather than their personalities per se.

woops

is not like other people
this is good but i do understand you're not going to allow yourself to enjoy it @luka

as i've pointed out before, trim is wearing a pavement t-shirt in the video

dearest lord, this is unequivocally my favorite thing i have seen this entire year without a shadow of a doubt. i am instantly OBSESSED like i am obsessed by doorways obsessed by portals obsessed by near

perpetual descent into unending permutations of geometric dungeon gradually inducing greater and greater hallucinatory flickering like an unending transcription of becoming / coming-into-being mapped into cryptic Wizardry style wireframe dungeon crawling:

those eternal mazes have always stirred the supremest yet barely intelligible sense of sympathy & empathy in me like they knew me on some intimate soul level or were projections of my mind or could be. like i am made of wander and void,

descending thru gradual accretions of being flickering into definition or traversing a landscape of dim memories in endless multiplicity as the dead you are made of slowly flicker into being around you / in you / thru you

like culture and memory and detritus are ordered thru constant repetition molding clay mummy into whatever form made of a thousand parts we call a self by virtue of a form which is haunted by the lingering memory of

repeat accrete descent shape
memory accretion
memory accretion

the enigmatic monstrosity of being a thing made up of a thousand multiple rooms repeating but also the comfort of the long and mazey ways which after all have beautiful carved arches and a terrace into dawnlight

shapes of color, fields of light,
the primal affect of somatic being,
the horror of being bodied,
with corpses in a mesh beneath.

i would watch this for 90 minutes or 10,000 or forever.
Hate that they typed out all that, spelling everything correctly yet insisting on 'thru' rather than 'through'.

I remember years ago, when OPN was getting big, a certain US rap journalist hinting about trying to hook him up with Lil B. I guess nothing came of it. Interesting how since then OPN music's has taken turns towards more a conservative sound, whilst the areas of the rap world inhabited by people like Lil B are continually pushing boundaries. Maybe it's just OPN getting older or wanting to run contrary to a progression he helped foster. Or could be he just got bored with what he was doing, either way I don't think he's really found his new home musically.

2010-2012 'cloud rap' or whatever you want to call it was actually a seriously amazing and fruitful collaboration period, where you'd have rappers like lil b on the strangest stuff and it rarely sounded forced or boring.

Got the album on now, prefer it to Age Of on first listen. It's strange though. Apparently it's supposed to be quite scattershot due to being conceptualised as a radio schedule, but that doesn't prevent the choppiness from becoming a little irritating.

The second half gives me the same vibe as Repo Man. That oddball 80s feel. It's like driving at night and catching some weird station on the dial.

do you agree that the best song is the one with the weeknd @version ? and do you agree that the best song off the last weeknd album was the one produced by opn? and do you agree they need to make an album of these pop ballads for depressed perverts like yourslef and myself? is that what you'd agree with yourself if you were asked?

Every now and then version shows his hardman side. I'm still scarred by the day he said to me, totally unprovoked and out the blue, shut up you fucking cunt.
