I got my first smart phone a few years ago - it seems to be one of those things where, as soon as you own one, you can't really imagine life without it

woops

is not like other people
well, for a while i went back and forth between having a dumbphone and a nophone, and it was always pressure from others that got me back on the line

it was a windows phone that was almost completely useless. it eventually died a horrible death from excessive slobber caused by my little boy chewing it repeatedly

I was really late to upgrade from the Nokia 3310 - I think mine was 2011ish. I had a flip-phone way ahead of everyone else for about six months in 2004 because my uncle was getting rid of his but it felt pointless because nobody else had one and I had nothing to take photos of on account of being 16 so when it broke I didn't feel the need to replace it.

This has spurred me to attempt to wean myself off it. I'm going to shove it up on a high shelf and only take it with me when I go out - which at the moment is very infrequently. Oh and FaceTime my mum. But that's it.

brilliant! this is what we want, an experimental support group to find useful techniques. we need to motivate and inspire each other. given you've written many successful books ill assume you have more self discipline than i do, so you go ahead and try this and then when you fail at least we'll know for sure that the high shelf technique is insufficient

But I've been in college for most of the last two years, and only had to work a couple month-long jobs. Having a flip phone ended up working out, but I could tell that it was suboptimal in the eyes of certain coworkers. The jobs involved a lot of driving around LA, going to places I wasn't familiar with, and not having the GPS impacted the ease with which such things can be done.
I was a food delivery boy for a proto doordash type service without a smart phone. I bought a wifi hotspot and rode around with my laptop like a cop

Yeah might yknow. I can do whatsapp on my mac, as well as those other apps. and i'd do well to learn to navigate london without computer help. Ill keep the iphone obv, Im not completely nuts like all you. and im only 4 months into a 2 year contract...

what about music? Maybe i could learn to appreciate the sounds of the city like stoned @Corpsey

Your dumb phone recommendations please. I see some have whatsapp built in. they also come with facebook but i barely use it and imagine the browsing experience so bad that i wouldnt even be tempted
