Art an enemy of the people

do you guys ever go to a vernissage? i feel like the atmosphere is so weird at those events, i was at one yesterday and even though i did like some of the art that was displayed i felt like every body was there just to hang out with people or to chat or "network", there was free drinks and me and my brother got embarrassingly drunk. the art is just an excuse to come together i guess?

Looks like a vernissage is an art opening or preview.

So yes, I have been to some, but not very fancy ones. They vary from being hyper networky to just being nice parties with some art I guess.

Openings are weird 'cos 90% of the people there are "working" i.e. trying to network with other artists. That's what gives it a sense of artificiality, there's only a veneer of sociability, everyone in the room in on the grift.
