Going it alone

how can you separate Ziggy Stardust from Ziggy Stardust's songs

if you just want to talk about his music it's like Rich said 10 pages ago, pointless, "are his songs good or not"

in that case we might as well argue about whether blue is a good color or not

the discussion that is literally spelled out in Op, which asks about whether collaboration more reliably improves artistic production or hurts it

I think there's plenty to say beyond pure taste about his songs. Everything I've posted has been about the music, about steps in avant production, about the musical outcomes of appropriation. if you don't wanna talk about music that's fine, there's a politics thread to talk about ethics in

IIRC I tried to have a convo with you about his musical influences and how he used them; you've preferred ad hominem. That's your prerogative but

boss there's a whole long post

I think yr innovation/synthesis, avant/popular, and art is intervention in social structure/art is examination of human condition dichotomies are all false

that's all directly related to both the musical and social outcomes of appropriation (or, a conversation about appropriation vs whatever)

hmm I don't think making distinctions entails dichotomizing, unless I mistakenly implied there was no in-between, but

on a lighter note what I think this thread needs is a good long analysis of Harry Styles' solo output vs. the greater output of One Direction

that bit there in the thread a couple pages back where I was really batting out of the park that really felt good

I can't help but think of @luka's thing about teaching/training, and dopamine/serotonin as social modulators of behavior

when you're saying things and you're like, I think I basically believe this, but still something feels groundless, or you can feel the slipperiness of the mud under the feet where you're standing, it's like you know you're kinda precarious, that you can be pushed over, that you're not as solid as you like

those posts I don't like, but they happen more often than the other kind

if someone wont grant you the frame youre working out of it can make things disintergrate entirely. i remember the first workshop i ever done i was flying, doing really great for about the first hour and then some girl asked like, what does it mean though?

and it all just fell apart!

you gotta remember: for stockholm syndrome to happen there has to be little kisses among the heaped abuse

yeah that's what it is, it's realizing the frame is kinda contingent like aw shucks
