I think a problem for me is that it reminds me of work too much.

I’ve also found when doing video chat with mates that it ends up with everyone listening to the loudest person rather than periodically splintering into little cheeky sub convos like irl.

That said I’ve been quite into the Tusk festival these last two weeks.
I'm finding that it allows all sorts of new ways of interacting with the colleagues and other work people - some reduction of formality when you are looking at someone in ther home and you are wearing pajamas

I do like that about it. No suits!

the work zoom dynamic is interesting in that everyone's square is the same size. no more big dog sitting at the head of the conference room table, with brown-nosed underlings vying to get the seats closest to the boss. or the passive aggressive middle manager who intentionally sits at the opposite end of the room.

also makes it easy to send text messages to work colleagues during the meeting, you can mock people without fear of being caught whispering to the person next to you or passing a paper note.

did you grow up without television luke?

We had a telly. My mum was dead set against it so when she was in labour with me my dad ran out to get one while she couldn't stop him. We didn't have a VCR which is why I'd never seen Robocop until the other day

I have used the "wife has a work zoom at the same time and our wifi can't handle two at once" excuse for dodging a zoom, I confess.

I was on one last night with Iidlerich's mix on at the same time, fine as long as you keep the channels split

in fact it felt quite futuristic - there's a lot of space for hijinx when you turn the camera off for a bit too

but on the other hand having your little face displayed on the screen all the time is very distracting
