I haven't needed to Zoom for work but I tried the social side of it and hated it. Sitting in my room, watching my pals, nobody sure who's going to be first to speak when someone finishes, then you end the call half-pissed with no music on, wishing your pals were just present with you. Turning off the camera, just not the same as passing out on the couch for a bit then calling a fearful taxi.

After a series of zoom interviews I got a job offer via zoom 1 hour before lockdown in march, so I'm in favour. I haven't met any of my colleagues, most are in the States. The company is hyperefficient so it all works well.

I've reservations about having to meet the UK lot in person.

If you use it a lot, impress your peers by using mmhmm.app - you can Shrink, fade, go monochrome, cool backgrounds.

We had a great social zoom call early on, my wife and I and about 6 really good friends we've known for decades. But there's the spotlight problem, there's no interplay, one person speaks, you fight to reply. It's not very forgiving. Probably a technical problem that can be fixed.
