don't English people drink Pimm's cups? while sitting around in their tennis whites, or after their polo match?

Years ago I was invited to a co-worker's birthday party/BBQ and had my one and only Pimm's. Just remember it being sickly sweet. Like Luka said, it's fairly weak, but the demographic's not really the 'let's go fucking mental' type.

I'm glad this thread got revived. I've tried Negronis since, on Constant Escape's recommendation...they're OK but I don't really buy the hype. Don't like booze that's too fruity or perfumey. Current favourite is whiskey sours, with the raw egg white and using Woodford Reserve.

They're definitely on the perfumey side, good word for it. And I commend the whiskey sour with the egg white. Without it there seems to be a lack of character, substance.

I believe it was mentioned somewhere upthread, but has anyone else tried the Guinness/Cider combo? I tried it at The King's Head in Santa Monica, think it was called a Black Velvet or something to that effect. I remember liking it, but not enough to recommend it based on anything but the sheer novelty, at least in my eyes.

Real Black Velvet is Guinness and champagne...but there was 'Bootleg Black Velvet' which was Guinness mixed with Woodpecker and on more of a 'bite yer ear off down the car park' vibe.

The problem with aperol is its never going to mix better than when ots with champagne. A little pricey too
