you could be, you're probably pulled in opposing directions to some degree. do you want to be an Idiot?

Sometimes, when it comes to self curation, improvement, expression i definitely have an idiot drive to self-destruct, like that stuff we talked about with the troll facebook statuses, i think thats related here...

"Deleuze and his congenial partner Félix Guattari speak of the old and the new idiot. The old idiot wanted evidence. He wanted to get to that evidence through himself and he would doubt all truths, even the simplest ones. The new idiot hates evidence. They are of no interest to him and there is no question of resigning himself to this evidence. The new idiot wants the absurd and that is how a completely different picture of thinking emerges.

The tension between old and new brings the mindsets to collapse and the sustained tremor shakes the established knowledge. If the old idiot wanted to find out for himself what was understandable or not, what was reasonable or not, what is worth saving or not, what may or may not get lost, then he finally has a challenger. The new idiot wants the lost, the incomprehensible, the absurd to be returned. If man succeeds in overcoming the stage of the old idiot and survives the transformation to the new idiot, then something really changes, because one thing is certain: there is another person in front of us.

The new idiot exceeds, but his function in society is not recognized. We need more new idiots."

after embracing the nerd (2010s), time to embrace the idiot, I suppose.
just wait until the self-loathing zoomers hear about this.

whil the tiktok dances you've been recording recently might make you seem very silly, your serious life decisions have been in fact completely reasonable recently. poser.

Yeah the desire not to be pigeonholed is an interesting case of what Erving Goffman calls "impression management" (in the spirit of the thread, we can call it "opticsmization"). Any fixed identity comes with its baggages so you stay nimble, keep it ambiguous.

The desire to self destruct also seems like a fantasy of liberation or escape. You go, Jesus this plane takes a lot of fuel to keep in the air, wouldn't it be nice to just crash-land in this empty field down there...

Peli Grietzer once wrote, "Keep it light keep it pretentious keep it ambiguous—this is dating advice AND writing advice" and it has stuck with me ever since.

maybe self destruct was a bit strong its more self reconstruct and deviate etc. OTOH this is obviously just the norm isnt it, someone gives you a compliment and you immediately undermine, someone insults and you defend

Right. Absolutely bizarre behavior. That almost everybody takes part in.
