Optimisation

i've just realised Stan is actually Gradgrind from the novel Hard Times by Charles Dickens and he is a mouthpiece for the same Totalising Techno-Optimism that was endemic to the Age of Industry.

The bad thing for me about the internet is how it's leaping out and colonising real society.

If we think about the internet as a world you can enter into that is seperate from the real world, it is a good and exciting and almost magical thing, partly beacuse of the binary allure, but when the worlds cross contaminate, everything is deadened.

I'm almost entirely convinced that that deadening will increase profoundly, if we continue to approach the online/digital in the sort of reactionary (if even slightly) manner in which it almost unanimously is. Maybe reactionary isn't the best word. But if we continue to treat it merely as if it is a supplement for the offline/meatspace, I think it will devour us.

But this could just be a reality I'm stuck in, a reality that is reinforced by a set of influences I find myself regularly exposed to. Would be worthwhile o chart a course outside of this reality, but at the same time, the situation is dire within this reality.

If one can manage to nest a a genuine neoliberal capitalism within their general skepticism/opposition to such things, I think that could suffice in preserving the part of us that would otherwise starve and wither.

Thats one of the factors that serves to stabilize the reign of the reality-one-is-stuck-in. Escaping/exiting that reality either appears impossible, or it feels as if there is too much work to do and the escape should be postponed. For me its a bit of a mix, although the former is becoming less and less true.

But I do think there is a potentially profound value to becoming a mouthpiece for the future, so long as you are able to probe into the vortex and actually make it back to the tribe/campfire.

edit: the transformation of your psychic state as you enter into closer and closer proximity to the vortex would be a sort of totalizing/solidifying of your reality. Reality as a function administered by the psyche, prompted/informed by environmental conditions.

if theres no escape hatch there's no hope. suicide is the only possible option.

No I was saying that there appears to be no escape, that your ideology, in response to your reality, orients its logic so as to preclude any possibility of escape. Like what I was saying about capitalism in the Exiting Reality thread.

It convincingly appears to be the case, until you manage to shift your reality, which then causes a shift in your ideology.

This is how fanaticism is achieved. The conviction that there is no alternative. I'm waxing and waning in and out of it myself, in terms of complexification being the ultimate end that is pursued across all orders of physical systems.

yeah this is what i mean youve totalised everything so we all have to commit suicide cos youve left us no way out. youve forced us into it.

I'm not saying I'm going to absolutely resist going back there. In fact, if I go back, I'll probably have added insight, knowing that such extremities are not, in fact, points of no return.

The point I'm making about shifting realities is a sort of failsafe protocol. You can, and perhaps should, persist under totalized/totalizing realities, so long as progress is being made. Once you plateau, then its time for a reality shift, perhaps. Certainly don't want to stagnate in a fanaticism. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

everyone i know thinks it is there personal fault that we ended up in this apocolypse plague timeline and of course they are all right or they wouldn[t be here. every single one of us fucked up.

Not familiar with switching timelines, nor have I tried DMT, but if its anything like what I'm talking about, I'm sure it has its uses. Perhaps it is more of an automatic to my manual, a substitution that evidently expedites such projects of progression.

"He’s afraid of the way the glass will fall – soon – it will be a spectacle: the fall of a crystal palace. But coming down in total blackout, without one glint of light, only great invisible crashing."
