What do you reckon is the smuttiest mainstream pop song ever? I reckon 'Relax' by FGTHW must be, er, up there (so to speak).

there's something to be said about the switch from smut and innuendo in lyrics to straight-up explicitness - it's freeing that we can now be direct and unashamedly sexual but it seems to have come at the cost of sophistication and style

I know what you mean. It does seem somehow naughtier for sexual lyrics to be snuck under the radar to some extent, even if it's fairly clear what they actually mean.

a thousand versions of "backdoor man".
But that's about adultery rather than bumming.
There are loads of rude blues tracks but I don't think they count as mainstream... I guess you could argue that The Clovers were a fairly big band who had hits and stuff...

true...so, risqué rather than outright smutty. but while that was the original intent, it's often now understood to also encompass anal.
This is true of course... meanings change and so you can do a kinda knowing cover of something now and imbue it with the new meaning, and yet disavow it by pointing to the old one.
Anyway, there are sooooooo many smutty, sleazy, grotty pop songs over the years, I wouldn't seriously want to think about nominating one as THE sleaziest. Way too much competition.

my vote is 100% "Pull Up to the Bumper" - not only is it about butt stuff, it's about Grace Jones doing butt stuff. and it's a classic Paradise Garage jam.

but come on there's so many good examples

Jet Boy Jet Girl, which is about a middle-aged guy fucking a 15-yr old rent boy (which no one said anything about cos the 70s)
Pete Shelly - Homosapien "homosuperior in my interior" - which is, yes, about dudes doing butt stuff
