Honestly, trying to learn to write poetry probably won't improve your prose, which is already excellent. You'd just be wasting time that would be better spent writing more and better prose.

Craner thinks, and I probably agree, that the two modes are mutually exclusive you can be good at one or the other but not both.

Why are they different what is the gap I can come to terms with my own limitations but I want to understand their parameters

It's very simple. I have a beautiful pure innocent soul so I write poetry. Craner has a worldly soul, the wheezing, cackling soul of an unrepentant old roue, so he writes prose.
