dont mind us Gus we are not your target audience. the main thing is that you wrote a whole book.
In all seriousness, the About section on Gus' site is very impressive. He's running a small press, he's written three books, he has a blog, he's built a forum, plus the tech stuff and some other things.

He's a clever boy and very gifted writer but I want to know how much of the effects he's generating are deliberate. To what degree it is supposed to irritate, provoke, upset, disgust etc

I used to play this silly computer game in middle school, called N

And you could build maps and mappacks, so I got really into that

And I remember the forum being very divided, some people liked it a fair bit, others hated it, but whether you liked it or not, the prevailing consensus was that the maps felt completely devoid of personality—clean surfaces, like something auto-generated by a computer, or cut'n'pasted procedurally.

I didn't feel that way about my maps, I liked my maps, I thought they were neat.

So it goes, I guess!

It's interesting, really

Sometimes I feel like me and Stan are wired really differently but then sometimes I get feedback that we're not! Something revolting and impersonal and modernist. A lack of charisma

I think this reaction/criticism of a lack of emotion tends to come from people who don't see through their own emotions.

Sorry Stan I didn't mean to call you revoltingly impersonal and lacking in charisma

I believe we have our own forcefields of attraction

But there is something about us that comes off as robots to other people, as you're aware

Reminds me of some of the criticism of Autechre.

I don't know how anything done by a human can ever really be inhuman or robotic or soulless if you believe in things like "soul" or the uniqueness of human beings as a species as it's contradictory. You can't do anything that isn't human by that logic.

Virtually every state of mind I've been in, whether a corporal depression, an electric bliss, or an enlightened equanimity, I see through. So I tend not to ground reality in emotion, but in a thermal assemblage.

the big difference between you and stan is that you are uncommonly overeducated and he is unfeasibly undereducated

Where should I start with Autechre what's the canonical entry progression
I dunno that they're worth listening to without decent headphones or speakers, mind you. I can't imagine them sounding great through a laptop, for example.
