Don't think Skyrim is multiplayer is it? There's an elder Scrolls online but it's not supposed to be as good

Not scared just don't want 12 year olds from Ohio juiced up on Mountain Dew yelling abuse at me

Although you might then think what's the point?

The point is competing with real people, and triumphing over them. Destroying them completely.

On some level I want to take it terribly seriously

Here's another thing I do

I sometimes walk slowly towards something instead of running like I could and sweep the camera around etc. To make it more dramatic.

When I was a kid I'd play games like sensible soccer and spend hours when not playing it making up stuff about the team in my head and doing sports analysis type commentary on it.

I like to add as much imagination to it as possible. Which is less possible nowadays cos the games do the imagining for you.

That's the correct way to play. I don't do that but an inspiration of mine did. He would play a character, as in, give them a personality and every in game decision where possible would be consistent with that personality

I think that's a sign of a powerful and healthy fantasy life being able to do that I really admire it and envy it

I do have a very powerful imagination - by which I don't mean it's remarkably original like Blakes

I mean that I walk around in a complete daydream most of the time

Unfortunately the fecund fantasy of youth has been replaced by self-obsessed self-flagellating fantasy images of the life I "could" have if I wasn't so X,Y,Z. Myopic. If I could break this spell I could be the greatest storyteller since Homer.

Serial killers often have rich fantasy lives that progressively consume them until they're driven to make the fantasy real. A private fantasy life can be the most squalid horrendous dungeon imaginable.

There's a really cool quote from either Dennis Nilsen or Jeffrey Dahmer where they say something like "I have no doubt about it that those people died in my imagination". Can't find it now but it's in one of Brian Master's books.

A Glastonbury Romance has a character like that. Great book. Of course I've noted your obsessive interest in serial killers.

Yeah I've often wondered what it is that obsesses me about them, obviously. And one of the more uncomfortable conclusions I've drawn is that I relate to some of them as alienated outsiders consumed by their own private fantasies. I don't think that's "it" but it's part of it. The other part of it I think is just the fascination of contemplating people who act on their most socially unacceptable fantasies without (much or any) guilt, which I can't relate to at all, since I feel consumed by guilt if I so much as mildly offend someone.

Dahmer and Nilsen are remarkably similar in many ways - both alcoholics who needed to be drunk to kill, both using similar (generally non-sadistic) methods to kill, both necrophiliacs. I don't think Nilsen was a cannibal.

Not cheery stuff reading about them obviously but for me magnetically fascinating.
