Jack Law's Thread of Skyrim.

I've gone for arrows with this guy. Stealth archer, everyone's favourite mode.

He's got mage robes on so probably going to have to go and train in magic too.

My default skyrim character is an orc with an axe in each hand. Magic is for pussies, that sort of thing.

Ive ended up doing loads of stealth arching over time with this one. I can't be bothered with magic, too confusing and complicated. I punched an elk to death yesterday for the first time. It's harder than you think, they keep running away and it takes a lot of punches.

It's a weird one that I now can't remember, I'll check later and post it on here.

I am going hard on stealth archery but I'm also into the idea of him being a hooded sorcerer and I've already picked up a staff that shoots fire.

I love how on Skyrim every time you play it you encounter the same situations but from a different angle. Like last night I was returning from getting the dragon stone and came across that tower with the bandits living in it, but it was snowing heavily and I'd never come at it from that angle.

A dark elf. The ill-fated Dunmer. What name have you given him?

I watched this video last night. It's very long and quite annoying and pedantic but I see where he's coming from. You probably don't want to watch it - basically he says that the problem with skyrim from the point of view of immersion is that it's world hasn't got any internal consistency. The example he uses is that there's a novice spell to conjure magical weapons and if that was really the case it would make sense that a lot more people would learn that spell and not bother with real weapons – and this would have a knock-on effect on blacksmiths, etc.

The reason I bring it up here is that one of the things I wish they had done with skyrim is make it really matter what race you chose to play as. As far as I'm aware, apart from having certain innate proclivities, skill-wise, it doesn't really matter if you're walking around skyrim as a Nord or an Orc or a Dunmer.

I don't see this as a 'deal breaker' or anything but i'd love it if in the next elder scrolls game they make it really significant to the world/story what race you play as.

I agree it doesn't change the way I play. You have to choose to make it matter and it involves an imaginative commitment which I can't muster.

It might matter at the highest difficulty levels where every fight is a matter of small margins

The other video I posted on this thread was quite good in that it pointed out that you need to use your imagination with Skyrim cos it's quite clunky. But it gives you space to do that. In the Witcher 3 you're playing a very distinct character with his own history and you can hear his voice etc. Like in red dead I suppose. In Skyrim you have to make it all up, for the most part.

Skyrim is very "gamey" as a game. It's beautiful and atmospheric etc but also quite silly and fun to play. There's something very charming about how clunky it is (NPCs walking into each other, etc.(

Way too early in the game to answer.

On the subject of enemies - I'm scared as fuck of the giants. I happened to walk through some sort of shrine they had last night on my way to a mission. A shrine made of bison skeletons. I respected them like primitive man must have respected the elephants.

I hate fighting the giant spiders because I'm IRL disgusted by spiders. But I had a good time last night shooting one full of arrows - and giving it a payoff line ('Say cheese' or something) before I fired the last one - the camera angle changed and it flew into its mouth in slow motion. I almost jizzed.

At the moment there's almost nothing I can't kill with one arrow. I could change the difficulty setting but I like it this way.

Another gripe about skyrim is all the american voice actors. Especially when some of the voices are Nordic. Just a really dumb decision IMO.

I don't much like spiders either and I find the dwarven mechanical spiders even worse. I love killing bandits. I like killing the forsworn a lot. I love laying into the thalmor

It's strange how there's only about five voices. I can understand having only five actors but you'd assume they could do a few different accents to mix it up a bit.

Some of the voices I quite like. I like the woman's voice saying "it's a great day with you around". That's the main reason I play the game, to hear that.
