I'm not really into the Eurythmics at all even in terms of high-budget 80s synthpop

but their first record was produced by Conny Plank at the same time he was producing DAF

Robert Gorl plays on it, as do none other than Jaki Liebezeit and Holger Czukay, and Stockhausen's son Markus

it's kind of post-krautrock meets new wave, definitely a bit off Sweet Dreams etc

on the Old Gray Whistle Test with the man like Czukay on French horn (and a surprisingly ripping flute solo from Annie herself)

anyway, that's the DAF-Eurythmics connection
Yeah I was interested in that record since I first heard (of) it. I'm always fascinated by naff bands (or bands who are perceived to be naff) doing something good or collaborating with someone good etc In fact I think I started a thread on the subject once.
This krautpunk banger from Robert Palmer is a good example.

I still can't beat Strapped by Edna

I've been reading some stuff about that song. Apparently it was inspired by some graffiti on a toilet wall that said "Whip me, beat me, call me Edna" and they banged it together in a about an hour.
I'm always confused/intrigued by the line

Burn my hair I like that action
Make me look like Michael Jackson

Also, there is some famous story about it where a radio station announced a ban on the record - but a DJ locked himself in the studio and played it continuously all day. In the end I believe it turned out to be an advertising gimmick or something.
Anyway, if I put my mind to it I'm sure I can come up with some sex dungeon stuff inna EBM style. Gimme a minute.

yes this is all good but what about the Carry On Up The Sex Dungeon vocals?
I actually started thinking about this just now... to be honest it's more the preserve of electroclash I reckon. Silver Screen being the kind of template that so many imitated.
Here's a (recent-ish - well, you know, not from the 80s) minimal synther that fits the bill

I think it was in this thread I was talking about this record

And I said it was inspired by an opera record but I was having a brain attack and I could't remember what it was. Well, in case anyone does care, I have remembered.. here it is as opera

And recorded

It's been re-worked a couple of times I think too, though - guess what - I forget who by.

Just been catching up on the last couple of pages in this thread.

This is a new beat banger that I really like but the words are so horrible (not to say childish) that I never play the a-side... and what's left is pretty much based on some Detroit record isn't it?

Isn't this precisely the sort of record you used to play for the sole purpose of upsetting Louise?

I have to say, it *is* pretty offensive - mainly because of the apostrophe in "I WAN'T IT!"

When I lived in London I used to know this guy Nathan G Wilkins a bit, he's had various musical projects but this one with Richard X could have been made for this thread.

I've got three singles from them and they are basically the same. But a good the same. I take this one with me a lot when I play outh, though dunno why I picked this twelve out of the three , probably it was nearer the front of the pile one time and now I know it best.

I quite often play the other side very shortly after - (could probably play the third one too but maybe that would be overkill)

But packing for Porto this weekend I found this one and stuck it in the bag...

Tonight it seems I am gonna play two hours of EBM at Desterro... at this point it does feel that I was manoeuvred if not outright tricked into doing it. Though I don't think I made it very hard for them to trick me.

I got in about ten a.m this morning and I was all excited - with hindsight, this may have been cos I was high as fuck - and I was all kinda "I'm gonna DJ tonight, will be super cool" and I was thinking "who needs sleep gonna get my records ready right fucking now!" and I really dived in, scouring long forgotten corners and playing loads of stuff I didn't know I had - and remembering my recent wrong speed discoveries I made sure to play every obscurity pitched right up and right down and backwards, just in case this beatless album played on a saw might somehow revea vicious pummelling dance floor monster if I tinkered with it enough and listened really hard.

Oh and I spent ages practising mixes I might do... until after about four hoiurs of this, I suddenly thought "what the fuck am I doing?" - I've never spent that long preparing for a gig, I doubt I would if itp was my most important gig ever. I guess it was wearing off, I rang a few friends and it turns out noone I know is going. I guess it's the least popular weekend of the year for clubbing. Well, whatever, at midnight I'll be dropping the most over prepared EBM set of all time to an empty room... assuming i can stay awake that long of course...

Any chance of recording the mix? Sounds like it'd be right up my street.

I'll ask Max if that is possible, would be pretty cool. I can tell you for sure it's gonna be pretty fucking messy, but if you can put up with that...

Oh, best not to bother then - you know I break out in a rash if I hear any mix where the beatmatching is anything less than millisecond-perfect.

Apparently it records it automatically, at the moment that means you will have a load of pissing about as I try to figure out how to play the turntable from the same channel as the controller.

Well in the end I was completely wrong about that night, it went off properly, but I suffered for it. I almost melted in the heat and I almost had a heart attack trying to DJ in the the pitch dark with records selected from several wonky piles of sleeveless vinyl using half of a broken pair of headphones through which, if I strained my ear really hard I could hear a faint noise in the far far distance which I assume/hope was the kick drum marking out the beat.

Obviously a lot of that was my fault - I didn't need to mix up my records so hopelessly, I could have brought my own headphones and, most of all, I could have slept last night. But reflecting on that didn't help.
