what keeps you posting?

I'd be very curious about what else brings people back here, what they hope to achieve through posting. will you ever complete it?

“Cannabis is anathema to the dominator culture because it deconditions or decouples users from accepted values. Because of its subliminally psychedelic effect, cannabis, when pursued as a lifestyle, places a person in intuitive contact with less goal-oriented and less competitive behavior patterns. For these reasons marijuana is unwelcome in the modern office environment, while a drug such as coffee, which reinforces the values of industrial culture, is both welcomed and encouraged. Cannabis use is correctly sensed as heretical and deeply disloyal to the values of male dominance and stratified hierarchy. Legalization of marijuana is thus a complex issue, since it involves legitimating a social factor that might ameliorate or even modify ego-dominant values."

i remember reading a quite depressing thread on here where people talked about how they were functioning alcoholics, but I'd be very curious about what else brings people back here, what they hope to achieve through posting. will you ever complete it?
I've heard of people who claim to have completed pornhub but I've never heard tell of anyone who defeated the final level boss of dissensus, which is HMLT obviously.

I once met a mate of a mate (at a stag do) who proudly told us he had a terabyte of porn all saved on a hard drive. I don't know if he had umm... "completed" over all of it though.

I don't post much 'cos of time. When I do it's cos the arguments or debates draw me out of my silence. Someone has to defend the proud legacy of Tonty Bliar on this forum.

I post out of habit and as part of my elaborate proscrastination regime. I post for likes and to wind people up. I post out of a vague and ill-defined feeling that ultimately it will foster community and make the world a better place. I post to hone my arguing skills and to refine my ill thought out ideas about the world. I post to remind myself I have a sense of humour. To bolster my ego. To piss into the lake of piss.

I like what Luka said about getting rattled, getting shaken up. I doubt that function exists for established members anymore, you normalize the worldview/s, but it's definitely a strange reckoning getting used to a new canon, a new sense of what matters in art or life, aesthetic "values," whatever. Peli Grietzer talks a bit about encountering a new community's avant canon after developing taste on his own, piecemeal, and I was reminded of it the first months I hung out here:

Exactly as it must, it starts in misrecognition... I expected mutual understanding, intuitive translatability, possibly a homecoming ceremony. It took a month of varyingly imaginary conversations (e-mails, books, weblogs etc.) across asymmetrical epistemic grounds to unhinge every line in my configuration of culture. The expectation of coming aboard the mother-ship – of finding not just one’s own world recapitulated but maybe even having its unknown periphery instantly resonate with others-– shuts down the capacity for shutting down, leaves open a chance for disorientation to set-in.

It’s a misrecognition that it doesn’t shock but instead wears you out; things were immediately wrong but marginally right. My reperatoire was known; its characters largely unusable, sometimes accepted: Pound yes, Lautremont yes, Musil not really, Ashbery yes with a but, definitely not Stevens, Beckett more-or-less and Godard yes but Sarraute not at all. More poignantly, T.S. Eliot was relegated to middlebrow anodyne next to the higher-Modernism of the unfamiliar Louis Zukofsky (this one still hurts five years later). And somehow Kerouac was an innovator.

Actually, it reminds me quite a bit about @luka's stuff about disruption, the defamiliarization tradition in Russian formalism, etc etc. You gotta get shaken up, the parts rearrange in a new stable equilibrium, whatever

To me it feels like a free place. Try out ridiculous positions, flaunt ignorance, show off, be pretentious, be more honest than you can be elsewhere. It’s loosely policed by people who care. It has a cultural legacy. I learn things. Weird connections and misrecognitions happen. Great recommendations from smart people with good taste. its very funny. Not comedian funny or internet humour funny but old mates irritated by others flaws funny

i don't even have the right calibration to troll these folks well, the best I could do is obvious bait: "wiley bad", "amapiano better than uk house", "NORAVE was the most underrated album of 2008" (true but so hard to find a copy that nobody can argue against it). I could go on a pro-zoomer kick (100 gecs, juice wrld, drain gang) but who even wants to engage with that.

When I showed up no one knew what a zoomer was so I consider this a personal contribution
